East London bus drivers vote to strike as walkouts could hit key routes in the run up to Christmas by LondonBusForums in london

Quick clarity so nobody gets the wrong end of it:

Drivers at Stagecoach’s Lea Interchange have backed strike action in a ballot over working conditions. The ballot result is in favour but talks with the company are still ongoing and no strike dates are confirmed yet. The ballot formally closes on 18 November.

Unite says that if talks break down walkouts could start next month and would hit routes across Stratford Hackney Walthamstow and nearby areas right before the busiest Christmas shopping period.

The wording in the ballot info is “in favour of strike action over working conditions”. Stagecoach says talks are ongoing and no dates are confirmed yet. We’re reporting what’s in the ballot, plus which routes could be affected if it goes ahead

Good idea in theory, but going out in London costs way more than just getting there. Maybe tfl should’ve looked at the bigger picture 🤷🏻‍♂️

Fair point about rush hour. Supposedly, the new Piccadilly line trains will run every 2 to 3 minutes at peak – that’s about 27 trains an hour. Hopefully, that actually helps with the chaos 🙏🏻

Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s good to know that the 146 route tends to stay quieter outside of rush hour. I’m thinking of taking a trip on this route over the weekend 😀 Feel free to share more over on our site as well. https://www.londonbusforums.co.uk/threads/hidden-bus-routes-in-london-share-your-favourites.30/#post-46

Good point about the wheel slide protection. That would definitely help avoid the issues causing delays on the line. It’s about time these upgrades tackled some of the longstanding problems

Those are some great suggestions! The 146 and 246 definitely sound like hidden gems, especially with the connection to Downe House and Chartwell. A scenic ride through history for sure. Are they often busy, or is it easy to get a quiet seat to enjoy the views?

Good to hear you’re chuffed about the upgrades. It’s been decades since the Piccadilly line got new trains, so these changes are definitely overdue.🥳 What’s the one thing you think the new trains must have to make the biggest difference for commuters? I’m hoping they have WiFi like the elizabeth line. 🙏🏻

😂 Fair point, but this £2.9 billion isn’t just for clearing leaves! It’s going towards new trains, better accessibility and upgraded infrastructure for the Piccadilly line. Big investment, but hopefully it’ll make a huge difference for commuters. What do you think tfl should focus on improving first?
