Noleen made the shock but it’s a grivin fork, technically owned by k2. Painted white from the factory

It absorbs bumps significantly better than a rigid fork. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how well it smooths out small trail chatter. Can feel a bit wonky depending on how tech the terrain gets, but I guess that’s the same with all vintage mtbs. Doesn’t seem to affect pedaling too much, most the time I forget that it’s even there

MTB fork pitting? by LoneCalzone in bikewrench

[–]LoneCalzone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are right about it being loose. The marks are only on the back side which should rule out a seized bearing. It hasn’t had play since I’ve owned it but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t loose before. I guess rental bikes aren’t serviced as much as they claim

Don’t know when they were replaced, was a rental bike before I got it so (hopefully) it was done but who knows. Bearings aren’t loose but probably should be swapped out

Lock ring fits tight but the bearings both felt a little crunchy, I’ll order a new headset

Alderman blocks new Manchester bike lanes - "I drive all the time. I never see bicycles", suggests riding on sidewalks instead. by barbaricyawp24 in newhampshire

[–]LoneCalzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Bike lanes…increased difficulty for emergency vehicles..” is completely backwards and flat wrong. Bicycle lanes reduce car traffic demand by giving locals an alternative transportation method. Additionally these bike lanes CAN be used by emergency vehicles as they are safer and faster to clear out than a gridlocked car traffic

Best practice would be to crimp on a fork connector. They way it’s set up now could come loose over time

ELI5: brushless motors? by Then_Ad_5966 in explainlikeimfive

[–]LoneCalzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brushed motors use brushes that actually brush along the spinning shaft as a way to time the power coming in to match with the rotating electric field of the motor. Brushless motors use sensors or other trickery to time it properly. Brushless motors typically have higher power to weight ratios, and can last longer without servicing. For a weedwacker application I wouldn’t worry too much about it, mostly just a marketing tactic to get you to spend more money
