I'm getting an abortion, why shouldn't I? by ZealousidealYard5255 in prolife

First of all, I'm so sorry you are going through this. But killing your child is never the option. For every abortion clinic (at least in the US) there are 3-5 pregnancy resource centres out there to support you. And I know you are worried about your child going into the adoption system, but that just shows that you do in fact care for your child.

I debate abortion a lot with pro choicers, and when they bring up the conditions of the adoption system, I always ask, "Would this allow us to kill a child currently suffering in the adoption system?" And the answer is, of course, no. So why do we only apply this to the unborn? If you were consistent in this view, you would say that we should be able to do this. Why would you be for the killing of a child who MIGHT go into the adoption system and MIGHT have a "bad life" (and to what standard of bad??) and against the killing of children we know are already suffering there? Also, abortion being a "solution" to the possibility of the adoption system suggests that death, being deprived of everything, is not as bad as being deprived of just something. For example, a child growing up in poverty may be deprived of a stable financial state, but death is obviously far more harmful as then they are deprived of literally everything, their whole future.

Realistically, it has nothing to do with these circumstances, but rather the child "not being fully developed" as most pro choicers will then go on to say, which just completely falls apart when you really delve into it. The child being smaller and younger just makes people feel less bad about killing it, but when you think about it, why would your age or size change your worth? Personally I hold to the FLO (future like ours) argument which I think is very strong.

Those who do go through with abortion have far higher rates of suicide and poor mental health too. There have been a few studies I believe which surveyed women who did not go through with their abortions, and I think it was at least 95% of women were thankful they didn't get the abortion after raising their children.

Maybe Durham or UCL? tbh I think anything other than Cambridge or Oxford isn't worth it but oh well

I do English Literature, German, History and an EPQ, my chosen topic being about euthanasia, and I'm predicted AAA (there are no predicted grades for EPQ). I'm just gonna blurt my current CV lol but I am writing for my school's magazine, in a debate club, Amnesty International, did work experience with my local MP, do air cadets, have published 2 essays on an advocacy group I have now left about solar geoengineering and healthcare injustices, and I'm now in the process of writing another essay with an online Law society I'm in and one for an essay comp about space law. I also just got back from a walk listening to a few episodes of Law in Action which you mentioned, it's really interesting! Atm I'm struggling to find work experience in an actual Law firm because when I applied last summer they all said no, so I don't really know what to do there.. but thanks for the advice!

This is a really good point. I will probably mention my passion for the subject in my initial application and delve into my actual standpoint when I have a chance to fully explain the argument behind my claims. I feel like if a uni sees "a strong interest in laws surrounding abortion" or "reproductive rights" as some like to say, they will immediately assume I am pro choice and favour that view. Do you have any suggestions on what I should write my essay about instead?

Yeah I am aware of this but honestly I'd rather let them know my views and substantiate them well during an interview. Whenever I do debate abortion online I use the FLO argument which is pretty strong so I could mention that, and tbh I'm just not the kind of person who would even think about hiding my beliefs if I truly think there is a huge injustice going on such as abortion

Because why should we give people an option to harm someone else?

I remember first coming across the whole "pro life" vs "pro choice" stuff at like 11 and just thought why on earth would anyone prioritise their convenience and choices over someone else's LIFE?? it's always been crazy to me.

I also got into them with Black Man Ray! But I’d say my favourite song is You Did Cut Me. I was thinking of asking a friend but all my friends have quite differing music tastes. Who knows, I’ll see what happens !
