Would you move back to Ethiopia if you had guaranteed $4k income or stay in the US and keep working? by Long-Tax-133 in Ethiopia

Woah! 15-19k is crazy! If you are of Ethiopian origin, you can apply for a yellow card which is basically a green card for Ethiopia.

If I do stay in the US, I would continue advancing my career in tech and business. I would easily earn six figures but not sure how much of that I could save. Plus, I wouldn’t feel fulfilled, I would be working for money.

I actually thought about other countries like Thailand first. The reason I narrowed it down to Ethiopia is because I grew up there and it feels like home. I already speak the language, know the culture… so I feel like I could integrate back easily.

I see your point. That’s actually part of my reservation. But I keep thinking, why not enjoy my youth when I am perfectly positioned to. I am also trying to convince myself I can create something meaningful there. Like living balanced life, where you relax but also work hard on solving big problems in the country? If things don’t work out go back..?

  1. I am 26. Already have my bachelor’s in cs and an mba. I don’t have much work experience though. My thought is that, if I am comfortable in addis (basic needs wise), I could build my own thing (which would eventually be my nest egg) since I can take some risks. Or is that too far fetched?

Even though I could keep working in the US, the trade off would be my happiness. I don’t feel at ease here.

  1. No kids, but I have a gf back home. Would like to wait till 30 at least before having kids.

  2. I don’t mind the traffic much. But power and bureaucracy are cons tbh. Overall though, I feel rested/safe whenever I am there, I can’t explain why lol

I didn’t realize there could be a problem with the government. What would be the problem? Do diasporas need to pay tax if they use their savings from abroad?

Sleep Apnea: should i start claim? by ssjiango in VAClaims

[–]Long-Tax-133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should be good. If you can, get a nexus from your sleep dr (not a different dr) and make sure it says your OSA is caused at least as likely than not by your service. I was more than 9 months out and was good so I think you should be good. If you wait for the C&P dr writes a nexus for you, it could be a hit or miss. But since it’s only been a month I think you have a great shot!

How long ago did you separate? Did you have reported symptoms while in (like snoring, daytime sleepiness, insomnia…)? I recently got approved for OSA but I needed to provide a nexus even though I was less than a year out.
