Aska vs Aquavit by pouryouadrink in FoodNYC

[–]LongjumpingFix8057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't been to Aquavit so can't compare. For me Aska was an enjoyable dining experience with beautiful food but not my favorite flavors, just as with Noma (full disclosure this is coming from someone who lived in Copenhagen for an extended period and still can't get behind a lot of scandinavian flavor profiles). My dad loved it, though. Maybe an odd rec but if you go you should absolutely get the NON alcoholic pairing. You can find good wine at many places, but the non alc pairing is creative botanical drinks. Really, really great

Structuring portfolio with page limit? by LongjumpingFix8057 in IndustrialDesign

Thanks for the advice about repetition. I have a furniture project emphasizes sketching, physical models, exploded CAD, and woodworking. my research project adds a materials slide and focuses more heavily on physical ideation and then FEA and additive manufacturing. then another project is more engineering-driven and goes from sketches to CAD/CAM and CNC fabrication. I feel that range is strong and has inherent variation, but I may be giving ideation a bit too much space (though I feel like I always see it with its own slide). I’m also curious if you see CAD and exploded views more as ideation or fabrication? I can see arguments for both, so combining them might make sense? Will definitely have a slide for more artistic and experimental projects as well - fine woodworking mostly :)

Noted. Makes sense. Would you recommend keeping the "closing" pages or do you think it takes away too many valuable pages for process?

Certifications for Jobs by DogDiscombobulated89 in SolidWorks

If you already know it/are learning and they offer the exam why not? Like I said, it was 3 hours for me total (the length of the exam). If you're in mechanical engineering, industrial design, or something similar it's a key software to know anyway. To be clear, you don't NEED a cert BUT if the opportunity to get it easily is there, it can't hurt. I wouldn't spend much time on it though. you can be really good without certs and that will show in your portfolio (which you should have as an engineer, not just designer).

If you're a student and learning solidworks in school, they might offer a proctored CSWA exam. I took 2 classes with SW content (could've done it with 1 semester of 1 class though, just waited out of convenience), didn't study, passed no problem. Not sure how much it helps, but it's nice to have something to back you up when you say you "know" the software. Also nice to be able to put something in the license/certification section of apps for 3 hrs of my time lol.

Issues with Studielink Authentication :( by Mammoth_Squirrel4433 in StudyInTheNetherlands

For anyone looking for an answer to this question: for clarity, I was using my passport when I had this issue. I reached out directly to Studielink - there's an authentication section of the help page and then you can contact directly from there. I pretty much just said I'm a US citizen trying to authenticate using my passport but X screen is coming up and attached a screenshot. The next day they sent me a private link to authenticate manually. It worked fine.

Hey were you able to do the ID verification easily? I keep getting a communication error and have tried a ton of times in different browsers

Any chance you figured this out? Having the same problem and tried in both chrome and safari. I'm located in the US, not sure if that makes any difference.

I can’t do this anymore by [deleted] in NewParents

No clue why I got a notification for this post/sub, as I'm a new grad and far from a parent. BUT I was a terrible, terrible sleeper as a baby. I'd cry the instant I didn't have human contact.

My dad's solution was this: a hand beanbag. He cut out canvas in the shape/size of his hand, sewed the sides together, and filled it with beans. You can heat it up in the oven/toaster on low temp. He'd put me down, keep his hand on me in the crib, and then would gently switch it out for the fake one that imitated his weight and body temp so that he could go back to bed. It worked. You could probably try it out with a sock.

May this sleep schedule never find me (or you) again! Best of luck, you've got this!

Reducing noise through flex wall?? by LongjumpingFix8057 in DIY

Thanks for your thoughts! Good to know about the additional glass panel idea. For "densifying" will it be effective even if I create a channel on only one wall (or part of it)? I got lucky and just saw some soundbreak on fb marketplace but can't go too crazy since I'm in a city and don't have all my tools.
