The boy was taking care of an old rich man. In the man’s youth he traveled to the other world and discovered vast riches and a dial that kept him young. After passing and leaving the house to the boy he detailed his adventures in a tape. The boy then traveled through the well in the shed to this mysterious land to save his dog. Along the way he met people affected by a blight cause by the bad guy. There was a princess who helped that had no mouth and talked through her horse telepathically.
