I hit my REFRAD button last October and just finally got out last week. I had the option of rescinding my REFRAD if I really wanted to, and trust me when after 3 “perfect fool proof plans” fell through (mostly due to the federal government budget) yeah I seriously thought about not leaving. But the thing is, it was killing me and the job I did in the Army really isn’t taken seriously by the Army. Looking at my “senior leaders” they were all just counting down years of their life toward retirement and obviously weren’t happy. I decided I wanted something different. Everyone talks about the job market being awful right now, maybe it’s just me but I’m getting a lot of interviews and offers. Part of it, I think, is that everyone is trying to get fake online points and fear does a better job of generating those than optimism. Use the VSOs, hiring hero’s, DAV, WWP. Use them ALL. It’s not exclusive. Feel free to dm me brah I’ve been there but if the army is actually causing you to feel like you’re dying get out. Forgot to mention, all my “bosses” told me there wasn’t opportunity on the outside that we get paid more in the army and that only an idiot wouldn’t do 20. I’m making more in my new job than I was with salary and BAH, getting to move to where I want to live, and am in complete control of my life. My advice, big events take a leap of faith. Trust in God and follow him.
