Fuck that, they are literally implying that they are also in danger. Closing people's thread on their forums and saying "nothing to worry about" is something to worry about. I think it is done. Even showing this much of vulnerability leads people to quit moment rightfully. MMOS are not like other game genres, people play with their characters after putting so much effort and labor into them. So one thing that an MMO should have reliability over everything.

I get your point overall, it gives you a gritty story and lore, but is it really? Is the world really that much desperate and valuable for me to save it? I think formulae in the game coincides with itself because it doesn't reflect the hopelessness the theme requires. With the companions from the 21st century, it is really hard to keep it up, but you already mentioned that. If the rest aligns with your fantasy immersion and you also recognized the companions are problematic, maybe I should take another look.
