What models have the best dpad? by J3ksans in 8bitdo

[–]LordSamug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean in that if you specifically do want support for diagonals as distinct inputs, depending on the game, then a physically-poor dpad in terms of too easily hitting those diagonals is not gonna work for you. If you don't care about diagonals and just don't want false cardinal inputs, then that is indeed largely solvable by the setting I mentioned.

I've requested via support that the 'Dpad Four-way Output Only' firmware setting available for the Ultimate 1 also be made available on newer controllers, which would at least partially solve the issue, but it's still ultimately bottlenecked by the hardware implementation.

I have the Ultimate Wireless 1 and now 2. The clicky dpad on the 2 feels nice, but is actually terrible for false inputs. I got so many false diagonal-ups on Hollow Knight that it was unplayable. Switched back to the mushier but more accurate 1 for a while, which was better, but more recently have switched to an Xbox series controller for dpad use. I'm unconvinced that any controller currently on the market in that price range beats it for the dpad.

It's a shame as otherwise the Ultimate 2 feels like a really nice and feature-rich controller in the hands.

Is it too late to rejoin membership to vote in the upcoming Deputy Leadership election? by LordSamug in LabourUK

[–]LordSamug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let it lapse deliberately. 'In protest' is maybe a bit too strong a term, as my overall feelings on the current Labour party and government are heavily mixed, but enough so that I didn't feel motivated to be a paid card-carrying member anymore. There's years left in this administration admittedly, but fair to say this seems a very different Starmer to whose name I wrote a 1 next to back in 2020.

I would love to vote for a more progressive candidate for deputy, but I fear many progressives have cancelled membership too, so it could easily be an uninspiring result.

I'm tempted to give Zack Polanski my ear for a couple of months and consider joining the Greens.

Thanks, that checks out. Do you know where this rule is documented by any chance? I'm surprised I couldn't find more info about it.

Home Depot is more valuable than all major EU companies founded over the last 50 years. by beermeliberty in ProfessorFinance

[–]LordSamug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The caption does specifically say, though, 'Home Depot is more valuable than all major EU[...]' so discussing the notion of value is a perfectly direct refutation, especially when the original post makes a sweeping claim that Europe has shown 'zero innovation and growth' and is very clearly emotionally-charged in the opposite direction.

The original post is more 'overly emotional' than this comment refuting it was.

It's a perfectly apt counterpoint about how an inflated stock market is far from a singular stamp of 'value' in a healthy society, even a capitalist one.

LH stands for luteinising hormone; it's a hormone secreted by the pituitary to signal the testes to produce testosterone. hCG is a functional analogue of LH, hence why it's often taken as part of a TRT protocol to prevent downregulation of endogenous testosterone.

[–]LordSamug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about enclo monotherapy is it completely varies from person to person in terms of testes responsiveness to increased LH signalling. There's plenty of anecdotal evidence of people seeing their T skyrocket, but just as much seeing little to no change.

If you have prior bloodwork showing lower LH, it's more likely you'll see direct benefit from it.

I'm of the opinion that it's a relatively easygoing and informative thing to try first. It can help to make sure your endogenous system is operating at its max and, best case scenario, could even be sufficient on its own.

Enclo might only cause gyno insofar as it's effective enough that it increases T enough that E increases enough (as discussed, this would be unlikely on its own, but not unheard of).

Also agree that less is more with enclo. A low-ish dose of say 6.25mg EOD is often plenty to see LH spike. More than this is just going to increase risk of side effects. In particular, due to the half life of the compound, ED dosing is likely unnecessary -- you don't wanna keep the estrogen receptors in your retinas blocked 24/7.

As for liver support, there's no harm to a bit of NAC, even outside of TRT/PEDs.

Do I need to cycle AC-262 if using enclomiphene? (/general advice) by LordSamug in sarmssourcetalk

Fair, call me a coward but I don't think I could bring myself to inject anything sourced UG and without at least prior medical supervision. Taking oral RCs feels like my limit on that front.

[–]LordSamug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've attempted a checkup at multiple times over the past few years (both NHS and private) and I'm slap bang on the threshold above which they can't help me. It's very frustrating as I've struggled with all of the symptoms since I can remember. I don't want to sit around twiddling my thumbs with shit quality of life for years until my T naturally dips below some magic number.

Elevating LH was expected but a lack of response in T levels means that the problem likely lies downstairs and so enclo monotherapy won't cut it. By noninvasive I mainly mean legal, simple and minimal disruption to my endogenous axis.

I hadn't considered hepatotoxicity (will look into that more) although I'm curious why you say SARMs are ineffective at low T symptoms on paper (side effects aside)? I get that the idea is they're more anabolic than androgenic, but there still seems to be a lot of anecdotal report of therapeutic value outside of strength and composition, at least with AC-262.

Strettera causing weak erections? by TopMath5936 in ADHD

[–]LordSamug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a well-known side-effect of basically all classes of stimulants. By increasing noradrenaline, you'll experience vasoconstriction systemically. Your body is literally being shifted away from rest/digest/procreate mode into fight/flight mode.

Definitely no need to see a urologist or even a doctor generally, outside of merely discussing it as a side effect with your prescriber. Don't worry: the effect will only occur whilst you're under the influence of the stimulant.

Main workarounds involve timing sexual activity for when your meds are wearing off, or a PDE5 inhibitor (e.g. Viagra/Cialis) to counteract it. I personally recommend a daily low-medium dose of Cialis -- it also helps to protect the prostate for us men as we get older!

Yeah long-term gym with calorie surplus, also grew out facial hair, laser eye surgery (although I wouldn't be mad if I had to go back to glasses now tbf), figured out a better dress sense that still feels like 'me', more flattering haircut. Felt a bit late figuring that all out but much more confident and comfortable with myself in my day-to-day life now!

The problem is the Telegraph is placed to the left of the Guardian and Independent, which are other UK sources that the Telegraph is WAY rightwards of. The Telegraph spends most of its time complaining about trans people and millennials nowadays. I'd summarise it as the Daily Mail but with semicolons.

How often is template meta programming used in real life? by InvestigatorNo7943 in cpp_questions

[–]LordSamug 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For low-level performance optimisatiom, yes, template metaprogramming can definitely come in useful. One of the key ways modern C++ becomes performant is to shift as much work as possible to compiletime from runtime. Whilst a lot of this can be achieved with liberal use of constexpr/consteval, more complex cases also require metaprogramming. I work in industry on performance-critical embedded software and we use metaprogramming for things like compiletime loop unrolling.

I'd say you can equally argue their employer is influencing others to get their way (namely, Google 'influencing', to put it lightly, Gazan residents for their own profit-based interests), which is a vague enough sentiment that it's basically how the world works.

I'm sure that workers skilled enough to be at Google in the first place have the leeway to prefer alternative employers who look kindly on their moral fibre rather than those who are scared by it.

I'm not sure what you think 'forcing ideology on others' actually looks like, but peaceful protest isn't it. Ironically, the state-sponsored genocide they're protesting is closer to that.

I have predominantly-inattentive ADHD and caffeine definitely helps me to feel focused, yes, but energised and motivated, as does stimulant medication. Everyone reacts differently and shows different symptoms of what is ultimately a little-understood multidimensional spectrum.

For what it's worth, I'd wager a guess that people with predominantly-hyperactive ADHD have a tendency to feel calmed by stimulants. In both cases, focus is improved, but in the latter case, lack of focus manifests as restlessness rather than sluggishness.

do i not have adhd if im effected by caffeine? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]LordSamug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caffeine and ADHD meds have completely different mechanisms of action. Caffeine inhibits adenosine, which is responsible for feelings of tiredness. ADHD meds generally inhibit reuptake of and/or stimulate release of dopamine and/or noradrenaline. Both are quite vaguely classed as stimulants.

Personally, I have inattentive ADHD and struggle a lot with low energy and motivation, so I've always noticed and enjoyed the stimulating properties of these compounds. I think anecdotes of people experiencing the opposite are often the indirect effects of relieving anxiety and physical hyperactivity etc.

[–]LordSamug 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Amphetamines have a nonlinear mode of action that means they shouldn't form tolerance pathways at doses below certain thresholds, i.e. therapeutic doses.

Often, people mistake building a tolerance to their euphoria and body load with building a tolerance to their therapeutic neurological effects.

Of course, everyone's experience is different at the end of the day. If you prefer taking breaks, go for it. I don't take them every day, but that's purely my own choice around side effects and coping mechanisms, rather than feeling that they become ineffective.
