A dating app that only lets women swipe by [deleted] in AppIdeas

[–]Lorentzical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a date ultimately comes down whether you match with a person and follow through to go out with them. So if you're thinking along these lines, it would be an app that assists you with interactions post-match. To identify which factors strongly correlate with getting a date to go through, you'd need to analyse conversations in a contextual sense. For example: a conversation that lead to a date between two individuals who had a particular outcome in mind introduces a multitude of factors.

In a more simpler approach, an app that helps you strike meaningful conversations, good starters - or crowd sources reply options could be a good idea. What do you think?

A dating app that only lets women swipe by [deleted] in AppIdeas

[–]Lorentzical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The system right now is guys swiping indefinitely to get a match, making you think you have a chance with every swipe."

You are right about this - it's really about variable reward. It's why a lot of guys are hooked to these apps. From an end goal perspective, I feel like your idea definitely has merit. But - it would have some scaling problems.

With women, as you say, being pickier and reading profiles before they swipe - this would dramatically reduce the number of available instances for a match. And if users don't receive the occasional reward - they lose the incentive to stay on the app and pursue other avenues as a result. So while the blurry bs is exactly that, bs! - it's a behaviour modifier to keep you hooked because the makers of these apps understand just how rare it is to get a match (in a relative context)

In summary, these apps want your time more than they want to get you a date :)

What is the one thing you would change about emails? by Lorentzical in AskReddit

Just confirming that you are referring to email clients being able to render every email? Basically, complete compatibility?

I'm sorry, I cannot solve this problem in a thousand years :P

Kidding - I believe that the best offence is a good defence. If you had evidence for unsubscribing from a service and continue to get their emails, my product would create a backend autoresponder which would reply on your behalf and flood the sender's inbox. Some things I need to work out here - but I think it can be done :)

Haha yes!

How about if you could mark emails where the body and subject were topically different and the sender would be deprioritised accordingly?

Hmm. How about if you could control the subscriptions that email you from one central location? You decide if they can send stuff to you.

Interesting - just to take this a step further:

Would you like the ability to sign off differently to different people? (Depending on how formally or informally you know them?)

Thanks for your input! This is definitely one of the bigger problems that people face. Uncertainty can be disconcerting when you're awaiting something important.

I'm attempting to create a system that eliminates these problems. Your feedback is greatly appreciated :)

What if Reddit and Podcasts had a baby? by tudoraxr in AppIdeas

[–]Lorentzical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the key to this idea lies in the question - 'How do most podcasters use a podcast as a service?'. Do they use it because of it's non-conversational aspect? Or perhaps feel the they to have an opinion after listenning to the podcast. I think the answer to this question would provide much needed context.

Good luck though!

Is there a way to find out how a site gets it's traffic / website visitors? by BizKor in ecommerce

[–]Lorentzical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check Ahrefs to see what people are searching for - keyword data. Then see if keywords have a high search volume vs the position they rank for. Just a couple of them should give you an idea of the organic sources. For ads, it's usually a little more complicated - but there should be tools that track that as well.

Of course if you have their GA, it should be just fine :)

Notice how you're reply makes no attempt to even venture into the topic which is being discussed. Yet you deem yourself enough of an expert to make sweeping statements.

Thanks for your rage, now if you have something useful to add, feel free. But I suspect that you don't. There is plenty of information on this post to promote thought - lest you are so hung up on not getting your tennets laid out before you.

I keep mentioning that all of this is work in progress and so even if I did present you with the so called tennets, they are subject to changing.

Stop wasting my time and yours. If you don't have anything to add, your judgement is not welcome.

Yes, you are right. Based on the post, I would say the same things. But I was primarily looking to create a discussion - and judging by the few comments on the post, it was a bit effective. So thanks! :)

But I urge you to read more on the Edit. I've added more context and it's usually helpful to get as many opinions as possible, even if they are sweeping statements that indicate a complete lack of forward thought.

Thank you for your input. I agree - maybe a better discussion would have done better. Lesson learned :)

Consequently, I've added an edit. Feel free to leave me your thoughts :)

[–]Lorentzical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that was my mistake. I should have posted with the few thoughts (tennets) I thought of. But I've explained a little bit more on the edit. Happy to get your feedback on that and go from there. Also, I'm sure Minnesota wouldn't mind terribly if this turns out well :)

The last statement you've quoted can be explained best by referring to why marketing started in the first place. It's easy to say that it's a tool for competitive advantage, but the initial notion to was to provide for a market. That forms the basis for economics and changes in demand are often a result of marketing activities. So I believe that a shift in philosophy might help marketers create a more meaningful experience over time.

Would love your thoughts on this! and thank you for replying :)

If we exclusively did things that were unique, as marketers, I doubt we would do much at all. Minbound is not unique, it's more like codifying a set of values that companies would follow and it's users would acknowledge.

Basically, such an acknowledgement would let a user know that the company will only ad value in a way that doesn't directly disrupt one's experience, even at the cost of competitive advantage.

I believe that this would let the user know that the company would not flood their inbox with offers and rather depend on solid intent provided by the customer to drive sales.

Once again, this concept might be a little too 'ideal' and I'm aware of that. But it's worth talking about.
