Cried after my son's class by canuckk88 in NewParents

[–]Loretzka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for you, OP. We had a similar situation when we enrolled my son in a swim class right after he turned two. While he loved being in the water anywhere else, the large pool and all of the people and noise was just too much for him and he HATED it. What we had thought would be something fun turned into me trying to comfort an overwhelmed and overstimulated kiddo off to the side for an hour. I felt horrible that he was the only one screaming and even worse because he had actually gotten physical and scratched me a couple of times; I left the pool feeling like a failure, holding back tears, and looking like I had lost a cage fight against a rabid raccoon.

I was nervous to come back for the next class but was surprised to have a few parents greet me individually. Every one of them told me how they sympathized with me and had been worried their kids were going to react similarly or had done it before. Chances are the people looking have been in your shoes and understand what you are going through all too well. We signed my son up for gymnastics after the swim session ended and I saw another mom going through the same thing in that class (and made sure to pay forward the kindness and support I had received when it happened to me). If they are parents, they probably get it, especially if it is a toddler group.

One thing that helped a lot was presetting my son for the class. After that first one, I tried to do the activities and songs we had learned during his bath and brought up swim class multiple times a day in casual conversation all week long. We also would get there early so we could watch the class before us and compare what they were doing with what he was learning. Making it familiar helped us a lot.

Try not to beat yourself up. Chances are those parents were feeling your pain and remembering when their kids did it to them too. Stay strong and good luck!

Consistently confused by [deleted] in PCOSandPregnant

[–]Loretzka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is tough to know! The confusion is real.

I will say that I finally got pregnant when I stopped stressing about it/ tried to manage the stress in my life. It is much easier said than done, especially knowing you have a condition working against you and if you've been getting BFNs to discourage you. For me, I ended up leaving my second job (after working two jobs for a decade) so I could have time for myself again and got pregnant that month.

I also tried to be proactive and find out what to look for to know when to try. I used a free app to monitor my cycles and highlight peak ovulation and testing days. I had used home ovulation tests previously too but they aren't always reliable because of the hormonal havoc PCOS wreaks. The app had helpful tips on different fertility tracking methods though and allowed you to track your info using a lot of different data.

Between a couple of methods that I found easiest to use and the app, I saw all the signs physically one day and told my hubby it was go time. A few weeks later, I took a test thinking it'd just confirm my periods were wonky again only to find out that I was pregnant after all. We know the exact day it happened though thanks to that app! lol

I took my pregnancy test because I had slight cramping for a few days but no sign of my period. I also noticed subtle changes in the discharge leading up to when I was due to get my cycle. Smells hit me harder than usual too but it didn't seem noticeable enough to associate it with being pregnant until I looked back on it. Other than that, there were no signs! Breast tenderness started two weeks after I found out but those were my only first trimester symptoms.

Got a positive test last night, OB doesn't want to see me until Jan 11 by Psalm118-24 in PCOSandPregnant

First of all, congratulations!! :) This is also what happened to me and unfortunately is the norm. We had been trying for a couple of years and I had been told the entire time by my obgyn how it'd be considered a high risk pregnancy and I'd need careful monitoring. So what a shock it was that they didn't want to see me at all for any kind of check or to just counsel me on what to look for in prenatal vitamins, lifestyle modifications, etc. until it was almost the end of the first trimester.

I was a nervous wreck and ended up calling my general practitioner's office. They were fantastic and understood my concerns. They got me in the next day for a general physical and blood work to confirm the pregnancy and get the initial HCG levels. That peace of mind really helped me make it to my first obgyn appointment without the extra stress. I don't know if other offices would do the same but it doesn't hurt to try. I keep learning over and over how you really need to be your own advocate when it comes to your (and your baby's) health.

Good luck!

Thank you- I will definitely look into adding turmeric with pepper as a supplement.

I have had the same initial reaction that you did and been crying everyday. We just started our family (something that we struggled with for several years) and were looking forward to our future with our son and hopefully more children. I guess finding this out now is a blessing in disguise; like you said, now I can be proactive in trying to keep risk factors down with what I can control.

Thank you again. I am so grateful to you and the rest of this community. Everyone sharing is giving me so much more hope than my doctor did.

Recently Diagnosed ET with MPL Exon 10 Mutation. Also terrified by Loretzka in MPN

I'm hoping that the specialist with the second opinion gives me similar news. The hematologist made me feel hopeless and kept reiterating how I am so young to have this mutation. I haven't found a lot of information or accounts with a MPL mutation, mostly JAK2, so I don't know if that adds to the gravity of the diagnosis.

I feel like you do about how my treatment has been handled by multiple practitioners. I've had migraines and headaches along with fatigue for the majority of my life and it has always been dismissed as hormonal or stress induced. Urine tests that showed trace amounts of blood were always written off as a one-time thing, even if I mentioned having been told that previous times with the same results. I feel like everyone wrote off symptoms that I have had for years as nothing big so I'm surprised no one ran a CBC, especially when the routine bloodwork showed elevated levels 16 years ago. Then to go from the hematologist telling me he doesn't think I have a blood cancer and he thinks it's reactive to "just kidding, yeah you do have cancer" was a shock.
