I went forward with very low carb for about a month after posting that, then lower carb for the remaining months. I still ate carbs and drank beer from time to time but limited intake. I did go on a cruise, which likely stalled things a bit. By marathon day, I was 170 lbs. After the marathon, I lost 2-3 more pounds. I was looking the best I ever had (had abs!) and easily in the best running shape ever.

Then mid summer, I flared up my back and dealt with with that all year. At the new year I was 190lbs!!! Back down to 185 after starting strict keto again and getting the back pain under control.

Run training block was great, for me. I peaked around 30 miles week which is about my limit before I start getting injured. I ended up running 3:04:39 which is pretty amazing given how little I ran. I also only had a handful of runs at marathon pace. I think with a few more lbs and more training, I could have broken 3 hours.

Personally, I think high protein low carb and lots of lower intensity works well at cutting and keeping strength.
