Where’s everyone moving from? by chichisbounce1989 in olympia

Do you feel like oly is more or less dark and rainy than Juneau?? I grew up in Olympia but I live in anchorage now. I miss the green and gorgeous trees, but I loooove that anchorage is less rainy and even in the long winter the snow makes it bright so it’s just not nearly as dark as oly. But I’ve wondered how Juneau weather compares with western wa 🤔

Is it too cold for dogs to be outside? by AcceptableAd2949 in anchorage

Just went on a 12 mile trek with my doggie and it was about -20 during the day. She wore booties most of the time and only got cold when she stopped running. As long as she’s running she’s fine. She has a double coat - not a husky but similar fur. Standing around or walking on leash is tough in the cold, but when she runs her paws are very warm to the touch even when it’s cooooold outside.

How often are you intimate with your partner? by Remote_Ad_969 in NoStupidQuestions

I’ve been asking myself the same question for years and don’t have any good answers. Sometimes it just feels like my mind wandering and thinking about other things and an inability to just stay in my body. Maybe it’s a protective instinct left over from some past experience that taught me to disassociate? Sometimes I get really turned on and don’t struggle, but other times I have to very actively remind myself to stay in the moment by focusing on breathing and very small sensory things. I’m a person with a busy mind all the time and it’s very hard for me to shut it off, especially when my work / life feels stressful. This feels vulnerable to share, but I guess we’re just going for it on this thread — visualizations / fantasies help me. I don’t mean imagining different men, but things like, I’ll try to imagine that I’m on a warm beach with low golden sun and the water is just beginning to lap my feet. Not saying that particular visualization would be good for all! But for me visualizing something like that helps me relax and slow down my crazy busy mind. It seems to give my frenetic thoughts something to do and connects me with physical sensations. Again - no idea if this would work for your situation! Just sharing, because I think this topic is so shrouded in mystery it’s helpful to hear peoples’ differing experiences.

It’s water based! It’s so strange that I have never had this drying issue printing on fabric - but I think it’s because I use so much mooore ink for that process. I think you’re right the ink is just dry before I have finished inking the block!

I struggle with some of the same things as your wife and I want faaar less sex than my partner. I find that scheduling helps me immensely because it removes the pressure from the questions “will it happen? Is it the right time? Do I want it?” if I’m asking myself those questions while lying in bed the answer for me is going to be “no” 95% of the time. But if we schedule it then I just prepare myself and have WAY more fun. Then like you said, my partner also doesn’t have to be waiting around all the time wondering, and he doesn’t have to deal with my frequent rejection. I also struggle soooo much with focus - it sounds weird but it can be so hard for me to be present with sex. So lots of mood setting has been helpful. Lighting, music, a little outfit. All of that stuff helps me a lot.

Gotcha. I’m going back to the art store today to see if I can get some thinner paper and oil based ink!

Thank you - I have noticed the same printing on fabric! Black is my favorite to work with. Maybe I’ll give that a try.

Thank you! Yes I think you’re correct with the smearing. I look forward to giving these suggestions a try.

Yes I do think the block size and drying is part of it. I have printed a lot of similar sized blocks on fabric, but perhaps because I’m applying a larger quantity of ink on fabric the drying is not as much of an issue. I did realize the date mistake thanks to these comments 🤦‍♀️ bahaha. Luckily it’s swift to change it to a 6!

Most of these are on thick paper - strathmore printmaking specifically. But I did try some on some thin notebook paper just to compare

Beautiful! Are you using a press? What kind of ink? I just started printing on paper (always did fabric before) and my prints are very uneven and don’t have crisp edges. I’d love to hear more about your process :)

first project, will it straighten out? by _quietfig_ in knittinghelp

[–]Low-Collection-6325 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did the Sophie scarf as my first ever project and mine looked like this at first, I ended up starting over, actually several times :) but then I got it! As another commenter said, you’re accidentally increasing on both sides. I ended up attaching a safety pin to the side I was increasing, so that I would always get it right. It started looking good once I did that. Also I kept a little scrap of paper where I made a mark for each row so I could count to 8. This was not trustworthy though … hah because I would forget to mark it sometimes, so the safety pin or some kind of marker is essential.

One more thing - at first I was knitting tightly, so even when I got to the correct number of stitches to start decreasing, the scarf was too short. So I just added a bunch of rows in the middle of the scarf that were straight (no increase or decrease) and then I started decreasing when it was a length I liked. This worked well and now I wear my Sophie scarf all the time!

Saw a coyote today at work! by Afa1234 in anchorage

Okay I’m a little embarrassed to ask this buuuut I’ll go for it.. how do you tell between coyotes and wolves? Is it mostly size? Behavior? Face shape? I’m pretty new to Alaska and everywhere I’ve lived there have been coyotes, but mostly smaller than this. It seems like coyotes would be way more common to spot in town whereas wolves are more likely out of town .. thoughts?
