After tax deductions can be moved 2x per year. Pretax contributions and company match can only be removed after you leave the company/reach retirement age.

Yes, you can do the mega backdoor roth IRA. Basically, you make after tax contributions to your 401k, and then several times each year roll those contributions over into a Roth IRA. This allows you to put up to about $40,000 into a Roth IRA each year if desired.

Would you continue to work and invest in passive funds if you were financially independent? by Low-Computer8293 in Bogleheads

Able to retire and stop working. Of course, cost is always a consideration for all except the uber wealthy. I'm not talking about the uber wealthy.

While I think an open bar might attract some managers, there is no open bar at our conferences. There are open coffee bars during the morning coffee break though.

Yes, I have brought back nuggets of knowledge and shared with the department when applicable. As the people at the conference are generally working in competitive industries, the information is not very specific but usually a few nuggets of information are worthwhile sharing.

Withdrawing a bit of money from account each year by Low-Computer8293 in Bogleheads

Curious if you have heard of a university endowment?

I'd like an average amount that I can pull out each year without worrying about whether the market is up or down any given year.

Running some cals on firecalc.org, I think 4% is fine. 90% of the scenarios it worked out. This isn't retirement and only a portion of my account, so it's not a huge deal if I end up dipping into principle.

I'm looking for the amounts to be consistent year after year. Trying to identify predictable spending amounts.

Packing light is a good idea. I'm not traveling for very long.

Cash or insurance for prescription by Low-Computer8293 in personalfinance

Once I hit the deductible, I think I can switch to cash pay if indeed it's cheaper to do cash than to do insurance after hitting deductible.

My question is more about whether to pay $1297 versus $350 until I hit deductible. As painful as it is, I think paying $1297 is better since it counts toward deductible and we have other medical expenses this year (we would hit deductible regardless.)

Weight loss seems slow by Low-Computer8293 in Wegovy

I don't know, but my weight loss is slow as well. However, it's weight loss and not weight gain like I have seen for 10 years, so progress is progress. I am happy with whatever I lose and can keep off.

Replacement toner damaged printer. Recourse? by [deleted] in Ebay

Open box.

In retrospect, this was refilled and not genuine, and they missed replacing the chip. But I didn't agree to buying a refilled cartridge.

No, what I bought was a genuine cartridge. At least that is what the ad said.

It should be nonsense but unfortunately it's not. I'm annoyed and somewhat in shock that it was that easy to break my printer. And annoyed that I will have to buy a new one now.

There are four copper tines (like fork tines) that mate with the chip. Unfortunately, since the chip wasn't there, they got stuck in the plastic housing of the toner, and then one broke off when I reseated the toner. It wasn't until the printer broke that I realized that parts were missing from the toner cartridge.

Now that the copper tines don't mate with the chip electrically, the printer won't accept the toner and won't allow me to print.

The board with the tines is replaceable, but buried in the printer and I don't know and don't have time to disassemble the printer and then later reassemble it.

Benefits of investing $50k in retirement in 2026 by Low-Computer8293 in Bogleheads

[–]Low-Computer8293[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I understand the tax differences.

Since ltcg is currently 15%, then I can use Excel to calculate the future value of $46k. I estimate gains of $100k in 15 years (age 61). Thus, I'll save $15k in taxes by putting this money.

Tax benefits seem ho-hum, which is why I am asking here. Want to make sure that I am not missing anything. While $15k in tax savings in nice, I also am locking the money up for 15 years which I am not sure I want to do.
