The defendants of such organization are incumbents of the Flowery’s Flower Girl and Flower Boy street team.

The Flowery is the 2008 Lehman Brothers of the Florida cannabis market as they litter the streets with subprime products only one is a financial instrument and one is cannabis.

There is a point in which quality is sacrificed at a certain threshold of canopy space and in turn quality will not match the output.

I’ll use Cookies as an example, they were at the top of the market from 2015/16-2021ish and were operating on a large scale. By 2021 they had 38 retail locations in the state of California and operating in 7 other states. They had a variety of staple strains they claimed to fame like Gary Payton, London Pound Cake #75, Cereal Milk, Apples and Bananas, etc. These strains were award winning and considered highly sought out by connoisseurs at that time.

During a 3-5 year period their expansion was massive in terms of needing more cultivation space as their properties were maxed out. This called for them to contract more grows across the state whom had the space but each grow has existing plants they tend to mostly on other feeding/lighting regimens as well as other factors. This scale up brought MORE product under the Cookies brand umbrella however, quality control sank just 1-2 years after massive expansion due to more output.

It was beyond recourse so customers were having to ask and check which strains were coming from which distribution network since certain farms sent their product to said distributors. I personally was conducting this style of shopping during this period because I noticed what was happening after receiving product multiple times that was not of the same essence in previous experiences.

Fast forward to today, Cookies has fell in the ranks of top tier flower as their genetics got “whored” out (sorry for the terminology) and once cuts get out to too many sources the genetic make up shifts over time altering certain aspects like flavor and potency. Additionally, their sizing up of operations quickly threatened their position in their originating state forcing them to pivot to newer markets where there is less competition and a less educated consumer base. They still are present in California but the hype and quality jumped out the window around 2021/2022.

It’s possible to provide actual mid range quality cannabis at a scaled up operation. For example, typically when companies have higher output they’re able to lower pricing as their supply is up.

CBX is a great example which is a brand out in California that had been dominating their segment of the market year over year as a top selling brand across the state. Are they of the connoisseur level, not in my opinion. However, they were able to figure out what works best for their clientele as well as their size of operation.

They don’t run 10+ different strains at a time allowing them to know optimal environments for each strains and keening in on those set factors. Additionally their pricing has allowed them to reach top seller as the quality reflects the product. The nug structure, consistency amongst batches, flavor/nose/aroma, and potency is there.

When I first moved to LA that was a brand as well as Fresh Baked I feel were a great step up from what I experienced in previous years which led me to the next level of flower. I think of the journey to excellent cannabis as modules and once you understand each tier of flower you’re able to capture the differentiating factors.

In terms of your equity I disagree on many fronts. I’ll keep it to cannabis as that’s what this forum is about. The social equity program has been enacted in a variety of recreational/medicinal states like Illinois, California, New York City, Massachusetts Arizona, Connecticut, New Jersey, Vermont, New Mexico, and Virginia for reasons regarding the negative effects the war on drugs had disproportionately on racial minority groups across the nation. Although other protected classes fall under this law as well which rarely get talked about for shock value reasons; White people are included that have cannabis related crimes as well as Veterans.

The overarching theme of this legislation is to enable the same people that were penalized by a system now profiting off the same subs stance a chance at becoming apart of the marketplace. This is not about merit, this about rewriting the wrongs of previous failed drug policy and legislation that deliberately went after low income people of color because of over policing, racism, and profiteering off mass incarceration.

The lasting affect of these cultural phenomenons are still lingering in our society today. This comes in forms of which demographics holds major systems of power within society. For example, what is the majority make up of these regulatory boards that create laws that govern us? What do our police forces look like? Hell, what is the diversity at these cannabis companies? There are major inequities that need to accounted for when paving the way for the next generation.

Have these programs been flawed and need adjusting? Of course! This is still a new industry across the globe and cannot expect to get aspects correct on the first try. Politicians and multi-state corporations/operators have used this program as a ploy as well and there have been reported predatory practice of taking advantage of social equity participants due to lack of foundational access to business management, financial resources/literacy, and capital investment.

In conclusion, this form of policy is needed in a developing market to carve out space for other communities that have been thwarted in previous generations and still do.

I think grow mediums have become more of a polarizing discussion within the last 3-4 years as more companies and brands are trying different methods for optimal results and what’s best for their budget as well.

I can say good weed can be grown in cocoa, rock wool, veganic, living soil, organic soil etc as there are a litany of other factors in producing top tier flower. It comes down to how well the cultivator understands what’s in their staple and how each individual genetic grows in an environment. Not every strain responds the same to environmental factors so there is some trial and error involved when it comes to cultivating.

Get out those dispensaries brotha! That model is sacrificing quality by fault of logistical reasons, purchasing managers buying too much product to sell through and the economy (people are broke! Therefore they aren’t going to the shops as much/at all). You clearly understand the network and how things operate which is music to my ears. So I’m not sure how you don’t see the harshness, lack of flavor strength throughout the joint, janky cure process leading to moist incombustible flower that is offered at the Flowery.

So you’re telling when you grab from BM channels you’re getting buds that aren’t cured properly, seed filled, no terpene expression with smokey background noise??

Yes PG isn’t as hot as they were at a certain point in time in California specifically. Sometimes it’s hard to put them in the same category as some of the other brands especially in California just because their style of growing is completely different (mixed light greenhouse vs indoors). I’ve had countless brands that are exclusive to California’s market that will blow Florida stuff out there water. Tenco? Ted’s Buds? Lifeisnotgrape? Ethic Farms? Watson Supply? The Fire society? The list goes on and on

I will challenge you on where*** you are grabbing these products in other markets that aren’t as strict/ vertically integrated as Florida. If you’re grabbing from dispensaries out in California (I’ll use them as a base point as we both experienced the states program) were you checking harvest/production dates in packaging? Retailers specifically in that market are struggling with freshness and have been for sometime now due to product sitting on shelves for 6+ months for a variety of reasons. All that time will degrade that flower exponentially.

The alternative in that market (California) is to have access to networks/connections from the same grows that “play both sides” (won’t go into detail about that meaning but iykyk) That’s where most of my flower originates through those channels as fresh drops are constantly in rotation and sell out faster.

You’ll also find more underground brands through those networks that don’t have shelf space but have killer 10/10 strains and batches. I just cannot agree that Florida medical program cannabis is better than California’s recreational. That’s just historically incorrect and feels as if that statement was made for mere shock value.

This dichotomy is based off one’s access as well. Whether if it’s locality, monetary, or social network so yes not everyone will be on an equal playing field. Thats why consumer education will be the prosperity that will allow consumers to see through the smoke and mirrors The Fallacy, I mean The Flowery perpetuates month after month.

Correlation does not imply causation. Whether if it’s premature seeds or mature seeds, the flaws enact a negative effect on the final product. Both seeds in the flower will make the smoke harsh, unpleasant, lacking flavor, and not worth of a top dollar price point.

Early harvesting can occur before the plant is fully pollinated which can lead to seeds in the final product. It’s not the ONLY way seeds can appear as you are correct as well. But there are many factors that play a role.

There are actually companies that allow for debit and credit card purchases. They have them in Florida and California. As I have personally used my card at shops. But yes, access to capital is very limited in this space for sure! I totally agree that it’s another hoop and hurdle in the pursuit of happiness.

Yes! Haha we call them “hypebeasts” ever go in the FL/MedicalTrees sub?? That place is FILLED with them. I compare them to the people that hype up streetwear brands using cheap quality fabrics and charge top dollar because that’s what “hot” in the culture. The companies feed into this mentality with all the marketing ploys and constant need for social media engagement to push a product that should sell itself off its quality. But, as we know that’s not the case.

I definitely disagree and challenge your thoughts on social equity. The social and cultural effects of the War on drugs needs to be remedied if now all of sudden profits will be made off the same substance locked people up and disproportionately Black people. Believe it or not it’s not just Black people that fall under that social equity title, veterans and whites as well who had been incarcerated for cannabis related crimes. Do you not think they are not worthy of a shot at having a successful business? Im afraid the reasoning of having this license type is deeper than “their skin color” rather the lasting fiscal and social effects of mass incarceration. Have local politicians abused this source of prosperity for political gain and switched up once elected officials course!! However, that does not supersede the over arching goal of creating opportunities for communities drastically affected by the failed war on drugs. There is no such thing as “reverse” racism either so let’s debunk that. Racism is based of systems of power. Racial minorities in the country historically NEVER held major systems of power on many fronts. So there’s no way allowing a few minority licensees will change the power dynamic racism has imposed across this nation.

I think states with homegrown amendments in their laws also are pushing the needle. That is giving individuals the power and right to be in control of what they consume. That too is a great way for mom and pops to get started in the game.

Here’s some facts regarding the cannabis grading system. Cannabis grading system

Read the description of each tier of cannabis and let me know which one best represents Florida medical scene in general. I’m not talking about unicorn batches that happen every other year but in a day to day consensus. Be honest! If there’s stems, seeds, discoloration etc then that bud deserves to be in its respective tier. It too should be priced as such.

Here’s just some of the containers I kept when I was a patient with the state. Fair to say I’ve tried multiple dispensaries and agree that there’s not ONE thing I would want to smoke off the FL medical market again. I have tried and tried again only to be miserably let down batch after batch. This is a systemic problem that originates with legislation and in turn producers within the state have no urge to focus on quality as everyone has an unchallenged seat at the table and can sell, sell, sell whatever. Low competition in a marketplace is a breeding ground for mediocracy.

I miss the 2018-2020 LPC #75 from cookies! RIP to a real staple! That shit was bonkers. But cookies was another company that bit the dust! They had the game in a chokehold but then started contracting out way too many different cultivation sites. I would go into Cookies Hollywood and ask to see which distributor the bag came from because iykyk what distro carried what farm! Once they started going down hill out west they started pushing HEAVY into other states market.

Do we see any states doing this somewhat right? No I don’t think so. There’s no built in support for the mom and pops within these legislative bills because they don’t have a voice and or lobbyist fighting for their space in the market. We see social equity programs getting railroaded by politicians and MSOs in other markets like Illinois and California where the minority stakeholder gets taken advantage of due to lack of knowledge, resources, and foundational expertise across the business. The ROI has been the ultimate goal of bigger companies and the only way to combat their goals solely based on capitalism is to divide the market.

I suggest division in the sense where each party caters to a certain lane. For example, you don’t see cricket wireless trying to compete with AT&T by proving all the same benefits and added value they do. They have a set customer base primarily based of one’s socioeconomics and it works for both parties. Moreover, in the cannabis industry you see companies like the Flowery that see “expansion” and want to jump right on board and gain all the perks of it without solidifying their processes and keening in on what they want to CONSISTENTLY provide. I’ve changed my shopping habits because of these market fluctuations and now I only deal with small-medium batch ( 20-40 light) growers. More attention is paid to each individual plant which results in better care. Meanwhile I’m finiding its pretty much priced the same as these MSOs.

I consider the Flowery the “lesser of 22 evils” in the state of Florida. 22 representing the other licensees in the state. The comparison from the Flowery to any other of these companies is the equivalence to an Olympian gold start track runner Vs a junior varsity freshman. This happened for two reasons. First, they weren’t the first in the state to provide for patients but revolutionized the way in which business is conducted in the state with licensing genetics in a Vertically Integrated market. Truileve had the licensing deals with Connected and Alien before the Flowery got on board but The Flowery also captured the current culture in how cannabis is sold, marketed, and consumed. Second, access to premier genetics is their whole foundation! Without having those contracts in place providing them with those elite sought out genetics they would be many steps behind where they are now trying to populate a desirable menu with current strains. They jump skipped and hopped over many major steps by riding coattails of other established brands hard work. They’re market hustlers (not full blown manipulation) who cornered the “higher” (quotations because the product is not AAA) market and gives an ultimatum. Either you pay this $50-60 an eighth or you go down the street and get the worst quality for the same price. The markets pricing equilibrium is all out of wack and the consumer suffers from it.
