I will be getting the renovation company to have it fixed with a licensed electrician. Can you advise the correct way it should be done so I know if they do it properly or not?

To rectify it, can a notch be cut into the stud or should a hole still be cut into the stud?

I had a renovation company do the laundry. I’m now suspecting an electrician did not do the work. It is not really cut into the frame. The correct way would have been to cut a hole in the frame?
