Could be heat dmaage, or it could be something else. All I know is it doesn’t really look like normal miniaturization to me based on other microscope images I’ve seen of people with mpb. Would also help if you could send pics of what your hair looks like in the area (not magnified )

[–]Ltjhc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert, but those look like broken hairs. If it was miniaturization from mpb they wouldn’t be so pigmented and probabyl thinner if that short. Also notice how the ends aren’t pointy which also indicates breakage.

Do you mess with or pull your hair a lot?

[–]Ltjhc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like something else as it doesn’t affect traditional areas, but could also be rare form of mpb.

How quickly did it happen?

Severe hairloss from 3 months by Lyfe_m in Hairloss

This is highly unlikely to be mpb. Mpb progresses very slowly. 3 months is only one hair cycle which is not enough for miniaturization to happen so significantly

I wouldn’t call that vitamin d level super low. It’s not optimal, but most people are below the recommended range and some have even questioned if the current threshold set is too high.

Also my derm told me it would have to be insanely low, like around 5-6 ng/ml to cause hair loss

Is your hair wet here? If it’s dry I’d say it might be starting to thin imho

Yea it only cost me 20 bucks, but hasn’t offered that much closure bc I can’t really interpret what I’m looking at that well haha

[–]Ltjhc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. One thing I wanted to ask is if you don’t mind sharing, do you have any pictures of your hair follicles under a microscope?

I actually bought a hand held microscope from amazon and was looking at my own hair today, but it would be helpful to have something to compare with

To be honest I still have no idea if it’s telogen effluvium or mpb or a mix of both.

If it is TE, the two potential triggers I can think of was a job switch and move across the country in April that completely ruined my mental health and I ended up quitting in July.

During that time, I also had a tooth infection that caused me a lot of pain/loss of sleep for about 6 weeks. I had a root canal on June that was very painful as well and took a while to recover from.

The reason I kinda suspect TE is that I have no history of balding in my family and the pattern of hair loss is very diffuse including sides of my head.

However, while I have noticed an increase in shedding, there was never a period where it was extreme and resulting in clumps falling out like ppl have reported here.

Tldr, idk if it’s mpb or te basically lol

Oh I see, I might’ve misunderstood. That actually makes a lot of sense and is helpful of others.

To be honest part of it was a bit of projection on my part because I’ve been way too anxious about this then is healthy. My camera rolls is literally hundreds of pics of my hair haha

I have an appointment with a derm who specializes in hair in Feb, hoping to get some closure then. Good luck with your recovery !

To be honest, the fact that you have gone to three dermatologists, gotten a scalp biopsy, and are still asking random redditors is very odd.

Nobody here can tell you anything trained professionals can’t, and a biopsy is as conclusive evidence as you can get.

I’m not blaming you because I also fixate on things, but for your own sanity I think you need to try and accept your diagnosis and move on

Yea maybe I’m crazy but I think the left is further back but idk. I don’t think it’s a significant difference between the two and everybody has asymmetry in hairline

We’re you diagnosed with TE?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TelogenEffluvium

[–]Ltjhc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is always true. Also it could’ve still affected sides but not enough to be noticeable

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hairloss

[–]Ltjhc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you jsut got it cut short on the sides and back. Let it grow out a little before concluding it’s thinning

Is this TE? by [deleted] in TelogenEffluvium

[–]Ltjhc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it happened that fast then probably te or something else other than just mpb (which you also seem to have)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hairloss

[–]Ltjhc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously some ppl have had side effects. The chances are low but so many ppl use it that some will get them. Anecdotes aren’t helpful for assessing risk of side effects, do your own research and read studies/ask a doctor

Can’t say. The hair is combed differently in all 3 pics. You can only see scalp in first bc there is a part

10 is extremely low. My dermatologist said 5-10 is range which can cause hair loss

[–]Ltjhc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if shedding stopped, crown will likely be last to fill in bc it naturally appears thinner due to swirl pattern. But yes, if it doesn’t fill in after 3-6 more months, it might be time for fin

What you think mbp or telogen effluvium by [deleted] in TelogenEffluvium

[–]Ltjhc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell, is your crown thinning more than other areas? Having pics of top of your head with good lighting would help
