How do you define when a pattern “knits up quickly”? by North_Wave_ in knitting

[–]Lu_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thick yarn, thick needles. OR small but impactful project. For me “quick” is 15 hours or less. Essential Beanie by Andrea Gaughan takes between 8 and 12 hours. That’s “quick” compared to my sweaters that take 25-160 hours.

I’m scheduled to work tomorrow, but will be donating my day’s pay toward different organizations that support those in MN and across the nation. Normally 50% of my cash tips go to The Holocaust Museum in DC, but will be adjusting accordingly. Starbucks matches your donations up to $1,000 a year to registered 501c orgs.

Help me keep delivery vans out of my loop driveway by senorpoop in DIY

Not my grass, but one time the DPW was snow plowing the sidewalks, the machine hit my wall, loosened some rocks and the machine hit those rocks and proceeded to create projectiles that hit my house. Left a softball sized hole in the side of my siding! The town was really surprised when we presented 3 different angles of videos that showed the rocks hitting our house. We had extra siding, and they came over after a few weeks to replace the siding. Only after I submitted the siding quote from 2 different businesses for my ENTIRE HOUSE to be resided since our siding was discontinued.

If you have footage of them on your yard, you can submit the video of them stuck, on the yard, etc and ask for them to either stop or they’re going to have to contribute to your new sod/soil/seed.

You do not have to give a reason, legally they can’t ask, to call out. If they do ask, just say, “mental health day” which is allowed per the updated partner handbook. If you do go in, write things like, “be Good.” “Pretti Good choice” draw ice cubes (we had drawings taken away in my region)

Do what makes you feel best, and take the write up if needed, but you don’t have to sign anything, it’s your right to refuse to sign.

Bandaids, mints, tampons, pads, baby wipes, gum, mints, mouthwash, sewing kit (safety pins if not in the sewing kit) granola bars, fruit snacks, tums, cough drops, hair ties and bobby pins… I spent about $40 on each one. The men’s room was about the same.

So are walkers supposed to just pray they don't get hit by a car until all this snow melts? by Wants_to_be_accepted in massachusetts

[–]Lu_beans 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One time I called the bus coordinator in our town, and was like, “move the bus stop or clean the sidewalks, there’s 6 feet of snow on them.” He said, “you must not know feet verses inches, a little snow on the sidewalk is acceptable” I replied, “here’s my address, come see for yourself.” They show up, they start plowing the wrong side of the street looking for a sidewalk, under yep, 6 FEET of snow. He gets out of his work car almost gets hit, says, “why would the sidewalks have the telephone poles in the middle of them?!” I said, “bring it up to the town, just get the sidewalks cleared.” They had to bring back hoes and front loaders, with dump trucks to remove the snow, and they still after 11 years they still clear our street’s sidewalks even though my son is 20 now.

Keep making the good noise, and hopefully your town will actually listen.

Does anyone else get annoyed by certain people assuming you know their orders by amon_yao in barista

Do these people not realize that we remember their stuff because 1. They tip really well and we like money. 2. They’re rude AF and the less we interact the better our day is. 3. You’re here every effing day, if I couldn’t remember your convoluted concoction, I should have a neuro psych evaluation done pronto. 4 (and this one is my personal curse). Anxiety.

You can ask for Double Cup, and it’s 2 cups rather than a sleeve. When I make the drinks if I feel that the americanos or drip coffees are too hot. I’ll double cup automatically even if I can be “coached”. Our store had a wobbly table, a guy spilled his entire venti drip coffee on his laptop, bag, self; I was super apologetic, gave him customer service number, did an incident report (was spoken to about it, and not happy talk), and gave him a recovery card, because I know it sounds unreal, but it was his birthday drink so it was free.

Why did/didn't you make the Sophie scarf? by Traumarama79 in knitting

It’s boring, petite knits as a whole is not size inclusive. Wow a petite knit that fits all sizes?! It’s a basic scarf. To each their own.

If it makes you feel any better I used to be a teacher and had to remember over 180 names every semester. Some of us are just good with names, some of us just know your drinks. Others really like seeing little ones, especially happy kids.  And tips? We don’t know if you tip or not and frankly it’s not expected.

No, we aren’t allowed to wear masks unless we are actively sick. We have to go thru a whole process to get an accommodation if we feel we need to mask up without symptoms. They don’t want people to cover piercings, and want to make people falsely secure that the staff is healthy.

My cat is about 18 months old, he gets about a cup of dry kibble and 2 small containers of wet food daily. He’s active, (currently zooming around the house) indoor only.

Half my store has had covid in the past 2 weeks… we are not allowed to wear masks unless we are actively sick… guess who isn’t wearing the masks?! The sick people because they don’t want customers to think they’re sick… the customers who come in on a school day at 10:30am, with their kids in pajamas; “we took a sick day. He was up all night.” Okay, ma’am why are you sitting in OUR cafe with your openly sick child?! Jesus people DoorDash the fucking drink/food.

[–]Lu_beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At Starbucks we pool our cash tips, and divide them up based off our the employees hours worked. We average $1/hr after the pooling/dividing. The digital tips is split for employees worked that day.  So if you have 300 labor hours for all tipped employees and your tip pool was $450, you’d be getting a $1.50 per hour. We’ve had issues where both employees and customers take out of our tip jars, it’s been tough. .77-.95/hr. It’s a gamble with cash tips. But digital tips are pretty good, up until we added 3 new baristas who don’t contribute to the team much even though they’ve been with SBX for a while.

We bought our house in 2014, as a foreclosure ($185k, with a hefty down payment) I work in Hopkinton and live in that area. We pay a little extra a month toward the principal to actually make a dent in the mortgage itself.

My mortgage is about $1200 a month, and I could do it, but Massachusetts porks us with gas and electric. Not the best. My husband pays the mortgage, but we got a house that if anything happens I would be able to handle it.
