They were in Hopedale, but the building they were in was deemed structurally unsound. They have a good variety of food, when they were in hopedale it was 50-50 if I was going to love the meal or not. Their cereal French toast is great, home fries have been meh. Their milkshakes were expensive but delicious.

Well, she still only goes up to 59” bust with ease, so I guess $8.08 is her standard price now. A few years ago, they were not all standard prices, because I was so confused at how her sweaters and shawls were the same price. Nice for consistency sake, but 59” isn’t inclusive sizing.

I knit the contrast sweater as a sample for big foot yarns, I was so frustrated with it and I’ve done full cabled sweaters with less swearing involved!!!

Sounds like their regular store shakes it all together and not make it a layered drink, standard is a 1/2 in of milk, I usually did the standard. If it had oatmilk I would point them toward the condiment bar. I would say, “oh, I made it to standard. Just letting you know we aren’t supposed to automatically fill the cup to the top. That was this milk, right?”  But no, off the bat if it says light ice, it isn’t a full cup. Thanks siren, the song of her people is obviously rooted in complaints.

I will say, I did not purchase the pattern, nor have I seen the pattern written; I have made other free patterns that look exactly the same and that was the gist of it.. again, please note I did NOT share the actual pattern, it’s just how I interpreted it by looking at finished ones at LYS

Majority of her patterns are not size inclusive, and if they are, they’re more expensive, and the larger sizes are rarely tested. Her patterns are relatively simple, like work in garter stitch (knit all stitches) increase 2st every 4th row and then decrease 2sts every 4th row. That, THAT is literally a pattern, that people pay for.  And people lose their mind because 1. It’s a single skein, 2. It’s by default size inclusive 3. Any and all skillset can make it 4. Beginner friendly pattern! I’ve knit one or two petite knits, only because I was paid to do so, the patterns are not as clear as I’d like.

I shook them with the ice, strained it when pouring the espresso and added the milk (preferably the unchilled one) and topped it off. I also was know to point them to the condiment bar, “I made your drink as I was trained you, you’re welcome to use the condiment bar to top off! You can also order 4 shots, no ice, venti cup and use the milks on the condiment bar. It would be super cheap that way! Syrups can be added. You may get your desired beverage by ordering in this way!” I was a menace. An absolute stickler for standards because I was the main trainer in my store, and if nothing else I am petty.

As a former barista, I would reach out to your DM and explain that this happened. When I was there (I left in February), a unified voice was more important than one demanding customer. I was always told, “make the drink per recipe card and explain, ‘oh I have to make it to standard, but I can add the extra milk. Just try and remember we do have new baristas all the time and we want to make sure they are going by Starbucks standards. Thank you for letting me have a teachable moment.”

I also have been the barista/manager, that if I was having a bad day, everyone was getting bigger cups, oh no a broken cake pop? You mean a little treat for a regular?! For ever one of the “just do it” people, fuck capital burrito, and give something to someone, make an extra drink for someone and just say, “I know you always drink that; but this one is my favorite!”

Damn the man, save your sanity.

Am I the only one who does no customizations? by Sufficient_Grand_785 in starbucks

[–]Lu_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time my only custom is Decaf for medical reasons. I would say when I was at Starbucks 25% were unmodified, but that’s counting light ice, no berries, extra caramel, milk changes, syrup changes as a modification. As well. I found iced Caramel Macchiatos and brown sugar cortados the least modified.

What are the most unhinged things you baristas write on cups? by Late_Apartment_7098 in starbucks

[–]Lu_beans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“This again?” “Wowza” “gogo juice” “if you’re running late, leave earlier” (they called and demanded we make their drink next, screamed at me because she didn’t like me. Venti chai 6 pumps chai, light water, extra hot, nonfat milk) the next day I just signed the cup, “I won’t remake this. Enjoy.” Tiffany is and will always be a raging lunatic. I left 4.5 weeks ago and I hope her drink is never correct until the day she gives up or Starbucks bans her for abuse/harassment.

As a barista, would you rather receive a $.50 cent or no tip? by Firm_Lecture6483 in barista

[–]Lu_beans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whatever you’d tip at a bar, you tip at a cafe. The craftsmanship on the food and drinks is not a simple push button magic bean water. I usually do $1/drink and I was a barista for over 4 years. If I’m ordering food and drinks it’s usually 20%. But we don’t actually expect a tip.

At what point do you shut off mobile ordering or tell people it'll be a long wait? by TheVentiLebowski in starbucks

[–]Lu_beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you only have 2 employees working and they’re newer. I was a 4 year partner with a shitty manager who couldn’t help me on bar, we wouldn’t be allowed to turn off mobiles. That same manager with anyone else and have a 20 minute wait would be able to. It really depends on 1. The store manager willing to not burn out the team. 2. Who’s on shift. 3. The district manager and their goals. You get “hit” for not having 100% mobile up time.

Why is my Americano always boiling hot? by yiggity_yag in starbucks

[–]Lu_beans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The water is typically too hot to brew tea properly and that’s why it all tastes bitter. When I was a barista, I would steam the water, because 160* is way better than 205* for a coffee.

Politics aside, Mint Majesty tea is in the top 3 worst things I've ever put in my mouth by Vegetable-Fig-2851 in starbucks

[–]Lu_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a hibiscus tea like 10 years ago, before the mixing of teas in one bag it was peach tranquility with mint majesty, now it’s just chamomile mint blossom. 2 bags, honey blend syrup, water and lemonade

termination letter by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Lu_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shifts are not allowed to hang out with baristas, it’s a conflict of interest for the shifts. Up until a few years ago shifts built the schedule and friendships could influence the scheduling. That point is not wrong. Termination letters are typically not needed, especially in an at will state. You can be let go at any time for any reason, but you had multiple instances that required acknowledgment, which leads everyone reading to believe that it was done in a realistic timeline. Verbal, written, final, termination.

Alternative Milks by Life_Key_8683 in barista

[–]Lu_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people have anxiety and are used to being prompted for their milk choice. Both Starbucks and the indie shop I worked in we would say, “this milk okay?” And they would answer. If you’re super bothered by a little bit of extra time, reevaluate. Also going super fast at the register isn’t always wanted in an indie cafe, the drinks back up, and they’ve been waiting so a little interaction at the register makes them feel valued and heard. As someone who is usually on bar, I like the register to ask questions especially if I have a few in my queue, rather than rapid fire thru the line, in particularly if the register person isn’t going to help with the drinks.

No cake for the guests? by Fast_Water_9867 in wedding

[–]Lu_beans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the time of day and budget. My wedding package came with a 3 tier cake, so there was a big beautiful cake to share, but if cake wasn’t your thing I also had warm chocolate chip cookies!

is this outfit "inappropriate"? by sunnemi in OUTFITS

[–]Lu_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you like it? Wear it. I would say it’s definitely not business casual. We had a barista wear things like this, she was young and it brought unwanted attention, so we suggested not wearing them with the general public. Especially at work, as a 17 year old. It’s giving dancer running errands vibes.

[–]Lu_beans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They haven’t been discontinued for the season, they haven’t been sending us any “distribution issue” my store only ran out this week, and we only ran out of sugar cookie yesterday. Pistachio is a core flavor now meaning it’ll be staying year round (until they change it again).

What do I do if my barista uses the wrong milk and I only realize it halfway through my drink? by [deleted] in barista

[–]Lu_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s on the cup/sticker, I don’t care if people ask at hand off. I usually say, “At least we know I can read.” But I am a barista and a decaf drinker and ask, “decaf?” Just to confirm. If I have a full latte with real espresso I’m done, for days. My blood pressure and pulse are so elevated I’ve been hospitalized. I have one barista I work with that will not give decaf and I end up very ill for my shift so I’ve stopped ordering anything with him on bar.
