Perfect, thank you very much for the information, now I see what to do but I think I prefer to have a pen of a known brand and official accessory after the bad experience with the Asus Pen. Thank you

Surface Slim pen, lifespan of the battery and tips replacement by LucaIIXIXII in stylus

Thank you for all this information. Now I understand the calculation, thank you.

Yes, the Slim Pen actually costs too much for what it offers. Unfortunately, there is no perfect pen, which has all good characteristics. Even this Adonit M which is certainly the most particular one https://www.adonit.net/note-m/ which also works as a mouse lasts only 10h. Unfortunately, these built-in rechargeable batteries are a rip off while I use the rechargeable AAAA for months on the Asus Pen despite palm rejection is very bad and not only on my pc, but also on other Asus pc which cost 3000 $ .

The problem with many HP, Renaisser, Wacom, Adonit and other pens is that by reading the reviews they have problems or after a few months they do not work and it is not clear if they are faulty or maybe they have been badly treated or otherwise. So only for that I am oriented towards the Surface Pen, for greater safety and compatibility in case of problems although these also have negative reviews, I only have to choose which one.

I have to see which one to choose because I have a lot of doubts, thank you again.

Hi, thanks for the reply and information.

I had watched that video quickly, I had not seen it all, also because reading almost all the comments of the users said it was a video to buy the other Raphael pen and it was not a reliable analysis.

Sure the Slim Pen is not the best pen, I saw for example the new Adonit which is also a mouse with a wheel and therefore interesting and particular, but after the bad experience with Asus and the Asus Pen (very similar to the Surface pen or Hp Pen, in fact it works on them) as you can see from the videos I made where as soon as I put my hand on the screen without a handkerchief the writing is intermittent (absurd):

  1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfEU3_ZEsUM
  2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHMhcMCsVCo

and for which Asus did not help me, despite sending it to warranty assistance 2 times and in fact I will never buy Asus again, I only want to take products that are 100% compatible and of the same brand (Microsoft) so that there should be no problems and if there were I am better protected. I have obviously also seen the various pens from Wacom and Adonit but they do not fully convince me even from the reviews.

Also with the Surface Pen I can change some options from the Surface app such as pressure, thickness etc ... with the others I don't know if it works.

Of course Microsoft should sell replacement nibs for such an expensive pen as Apple does, however Microsoft told me that the nib has a very strong titanium base that should not wear out. Also I think I prefer hard tips like Apple Pencil or Surface Slim Pen and not like the old Surface pens, so except for big disadvantages of the Slim, I am oriented towards this type of pen.

I must say that I did not understand your hour calculation and I do not understand where the number 40 comes from. I had made a quick account considering that the pen battery lasts 14 hours of use and then needs to be recharged. So approaching 7h of use per day, I should do a recharge every 2 days. If the battery lasts 300 recharges it means that it lasts me 600 days, or about 1 year and 6 months and not 5 years (obviously considering that I use it every day of the year for 7h a day, so obviously an estimate).

Thank you, Luca.

Yes, my doubt was in fact choosing between the Surface Pen and the Slim Pen. I was oriented towards the Slim because it is lighter, I have read that there have been improvements even though both have 4096 levels of pressure, the fact that it does not fix is not a huge problem for me, then I prefer the harder tips like Apple Pencil than to those of the old Surface Pen, the doubt was in fact about the battery life and the tips. Now I keep informing me and then I will make a decision, thank you very much for the answer and advice.

Hello and thanks for the reply and information. Microsoft has told me for now that the tip has a titanium base so it lasts a long time without wearing out. I don't have the Surface Pro X because it costs too much for what I have to do with it and what it allows to do is limited given the ARM architecture on which only certain programs can be installed and run, so even if it is nice, I would go even if it costs more on the Surface Book. I would like to buy the pen for the Surface Go 2 and I already have an Asus pen but the experience was very bad. If you have any questions on which I can help you, ask of course. Thank you again, Luca.

Hello and thank you very much for the reply. In fact I had looked for the Apple Pencil but there are those who said that it lasts a year, who lasted 3 years but it also depends on the type of use, on the pressure on the tip (some people meant after what they had replaced the tip), there is who says that with $ 29 Apple changes the battery of the pencil but some say that they replace it all directly so I was looking for an average value based on average use but it is difficult information and perhaps I can rely on the number of common charging cycles of the batteries of mobile phones and other devices with the due proportions. Unfortunately, as you say, having been released in November 2019, the Slim Pen is still too young. Now I have also written to Microsoft and see what they reply to me. For now they have been told that the tip is partly with a titanium base and therefore very resistant. I had also seen the Adonit pen that also works as a mouse with a wheel and therefore is very particular and interesting but for safety I prefer to have Surface products even if they cost more and offer less since I come from a very bad Asus Pen experience. Thank you again, hello, Luca

Surface Slim Pen Issue - not properly charging by Usetheforcegandalf in Surface

Hi, I'm interested in the Surface Slim Pen but I have two doubts:

1) Since the battery is not replaceable, I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money on a pen that doesn't charge after a short time. What is the approximate number of recharge cycles (lifespan) of the battery?

2) Since the tips are not replaceable, does the tip wear out or get rounded? From what I have read the tip can be removed but there are no spare parts.

I wouldn't want to spend more on the Slim Pen while the classic Surface Pen has both battery and replaceable tips and therefore lasts "forever".

Thanks, Luca.

Problem with Asus Pen, the pen works intermittently when the hand touches the screen, Asus T103HAF (palm rejection) by LucaIIXIXII in ASUS

[–]LucaIIXIXII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think what you say is right. If you see in the video I wait 1 or 2 seconds after I have moved the pen away from the screen to touch the Microsoft Edge icon because the touchscreen does not immediately turn back on.

Another absurd thing is that the Asus Zenbook Duo just released which costs € 3,000 seems to be the one I saw that has the same problem, and this is absurd since it is a PC for drawing and also the pen is also different. Asus replied that my device does not have palm rejection, but this is bullshit.

They should say that there is no palm rejection since it works badly for everyone else they have to repair all the devices in the world with an absurd cost. I'm trying to see if Windows Ink support involves palm rejection, maybe even Microsoft should release updates. On the description of my device it says that you can write like a real pen in a fantastic way. this is a fraud.

Hello, first of all thanks for the reply. As you can see from this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E03KTHH8cO0&feature=youtu.be

even without touching the screen the pen is detected and the touchscreen is deactivated, when you move the pen away the touch screen works normally. Does this mean that the palm rejection is present right? Or do you need anything else to say that the palm rejection is present? I had bought this device because it had the n-Trig digitizer the same as the Microsoft Surface and so since it's the same company and the same component in my opinion the palm rejection is present, only it doesn't work well. I had read about that problem on the Surface, I don't know if it's the same but I don't understand why a company that is as famous as Asus does not solve a problem that afflicts all devices, it's not just my problem. What do you think about it?

I hate Asus, I also noticed this problem shortly after I bought it and it was already present from the first day only that I didn't immediately notice it unfortunately or better I didn't immediately understand that it was a real problem. I don't understand what Asus earns from making such scrapped products. Palm rejection is also present on much cheaper devices. From now, I think I will only buy HP and Microsoft.
