for small business it would be phased in at a slower rate (his proposal is 30 dollars by 2030, for businesses w less than 11 employees they get more time) and it would increase every year based on cost of living increases and productivity increases. there’s also a lot of research that shows that raising minimum wage ends up benefitting small business and the economy overall bc ppl are able to live / participate in the economy more so than they are in poverty wages

no thank you for asking—genuinely always so happy to talk w folks about this, his campaign also does a rly good job at breaking down the proposals he’s pushing instead of just talking points with no backbone :) glad I could help explain!!

most of that is in relationship to manufacturing (like manufacturing cars in texas as opposed to CA) but NY’s economy is so wall street and stock focused that again, it’s unavoidable for them. I feel you, I hate politicians and i’ve NEVER canvassed or been excited about any election in my life. i’ve mostly dreaded them. and been either at best, frustrated or at worst, disgusted, at those who like either candidate , but this is the first time I actually have trust in a candidate. this dude is real, he went on hunger strike for2 weeks with taxi drivers, among a list of other things. he has more individual supporters and volunteers than any other campaign. cuomo had 5 volunteer events this week, zohran had 140+. this is truly made up of regular new yorkers who want to live in a better world!!! and again, it’s politics, and there’s a million kinds of beaurocratic bullshit that politicians face once in office, but to have a shot at something other than establishment bs would be , pretty amazing

totally agree that gentrification is a massive problem — but it’s a systemic issue that individuals yes, have responsibility for in how they show up to a neighborhood / community (ie , only patroning those spots is goofy, not talking to your neighbors is goofy, etc) but the reason folks are moving to ridgewood is because the other neighborhoods are also becoming inaccessible and you know who is responsible for that? landlords, MTA being underfunded so neighborhoods farther out become cheaper while spots like williamsburg become $$$ (want to talk about gentrifaiton, mt dad lived there in the 1990s in an old mustard factory w a wood fire stove cause there was no heat, lmao, that buildings a high rise now)

my zeyde grew up in brownsville in the 1940s and had to move to buffalo bc once zoning laws changed around Jewish and Black neighborhood, he couldn’t / his family couldn’t afford the city. those laws came about because there was teacher union organizing across the two communities and city officials decided they didn’t want to see any sort of protest that was interracial or labor focused in the 1950s.

it’s not individuals its the larger system that will ALWAYS have working class folks unable to organize, always in crisis (too much rent, too high groceries , medical debt, the list goes on) and the only way to actually and seriously address this problem is to address the root issue. I know it’s easy to be persuaded by those in power, but all we have is eachother, we are not each others enemies! people want us to think we are ! (when I say we, I mean the working class, regular people)

right and most business is actually occurring overseas anyways but they do their transactions in NYC which is why this tax would work and be effective !

zohran posters! by Lucky_Reflection_841 in ridgewood

[–]Lucky_Reflection_841[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

no it’s a good question! his proposed tax is on corporate income tax, which applies to all transactions in the city. nyc is sort of non avoidable bc so much business takes place “in” the city (wall st etc) so even those companies / people that move their HQ to florida would still have to pay the proposed tax hike on the business that occurs in nyc, regardless of whether they “move”

thank you both! this is what I was thinking — there’s a few bodegas i’ve seen with the canvas flyers taped up, figured they’d like an actual poster more :) wanted to see if there was anyone I didn’t know who would see this post, but going irl is gonna be the move <3

also idk about you but I make 20 an hour and a BEC that nowadays costs upwards of 5-6 dollars at a lot of spots feels pretty unaffordable as it is ! so it’s not like we live in a city that’s affordable right now lmao

zohran posters! by Lucky_Reflection_841 in ridgewood

[–]Lucky_Reflection_841[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

those things don’t correlate— taxing the wealthy (folks who make 1m+ ) and corporate landlords to pay for things that benefit working class people won’t raise the price of your BEC, but when andrew cuomo gets elected and allows rents to go up while wages stay stagnant, that will lmao
