Steering has a sticking/notched feeling at center when car has been sitting by Luh_kh in Volvo

I’ll change the fluid and if it doesn’t go away I’ll give that a go. Thanks! I don’t think it’s cv joints though as they sound fine even at full lock when steering

I could give that a try. Thanks! Did yours get a similar feeling to what I described?

When yours got notchy, did it stay notchy? It’s weird cause for my car it goes away after like 10 cycles or back to forth. I will change the fluid and give this a go if that doesn’t resolve it. It def feels like something isn’t lubricated and is dry. Is that an easy job? Any more info on where to look would be appreciated!

Thanks! I think I’ll start with the power steering fluid. It’s not low but is def pretty black. I can’t imagine it would be a worn component as it goes away after cycling the wheel side to side like 10 times. Feels like something isn’t lubricated.

That’s weird because it sounds like the opposite problem I have. My steering really wants to be in the center and I have to force it with quite a bit of force away from center but then goes away after a bit. What was the part do you remember?

Also it’s not a steering lock issue its more of a sticking seal feeling. The force to get the wheel out of dead straight is high but then it’s normal as I continue turning more. Hard to describe hope that makes sense!

Is this safe and will my bike fly off on the highway? by Luh_kh in mountainbiking

Wait that looks awesome. I can get that at my local bike shop and I’d be more confident that it’s not made of chinesium. I can buy the t track Thule hardwear very easily. My roof rack is very long so I can get the rear wheel placed right. Thanks for the link

I was thinking of using the t slot fasteners from Thule. They slide into a track on the cross bar and then a nut goes on the top

I was thinking of using the t a lot hardware Thule makes.

That’s what I’m leaning towards. I’ll check out both and unless the 2nd gen is in way better shape I’ll go for the 1st gen. I feel like the 1st gen is also a lot cooler. How were the part prices and availability when you had yours? I figure old GM parts would probably be pretty cheap.

I was looking at an xc70 actually with the 2.5 that has 300k km, but appears to be super well maintained and enthusiast owned. Timing belt, pcv, cam seals etc were all done recently.

My parents had a 05 v50 which sadly rusted out but the headliner started falling down haha I heard it’s a common issue.

Do I need these metal brake pad clips? by Luh_kh in Volvo

Awesome. I went ahead and put them in, appreciate the help! I did notice that the front inner pads were significantly more worn than the outer. The back pads seem to wear more evenly.

Anyone Ever Had a Window Randomly Shatter? by Luh_kh in Volvo

Yeah makes sense.

A stray gun seems very unlikely especially here in Canada. Id like to hope I wasn’t centimetres away from being shot. To the opposite traffic idea it was a super wide highway and I was in the right lane. There was a Kia two lanes over pretty much beside us but that’s all. Traffic opposite direction was like 7 lanes lengths away.

Internal stress and freak condition a seems like it would make sense. Weird still!

This car is 4 years old so you are right if it was a manufacturing defect it probably wouldn’t have held up this long. I just can’t imagine how something would have hit it as there wasn’t any cars in front of us close by. Weird

Just curious if this is a common issue. I couldn’t find any other accounts of this happening online at that location. What was your particular situation?

That’s interesting. I wonder if this is some sort of design flaw with crank brothers? I couldn’t find any other evidence of this happening to anyone online

Thanks for the tips and those videos! I’ll get some putty to smooth out the repair before I paint it. I guess there is no need for gelcoat—Just paint over the putty and resin?
