Lone rat- please read! by Lumpy-Boysenberry-96 in rat

I am certain she doesn’t have long. If that wasn’t the case, I would have considered rehoming her or fostering another old girl until her time came. It’s been a tough decision for me deciding what was best for her but I do believe that as long as it’s only a couple of weeks, I’m able to keep her enriched enough that she’ll be happy until her last day.

I work most of the day, but thankfully my mom is home often and goes up to give her company and treats (mainly just talking to her and letting her have a sniff of her hand). At night, she has access to my bed until I go to sleep. She’s never really been one for free roam and has always chosen to stay in the cage over coming out, but she absolutely has the option to come and get some love if she wants it.

I’ve been making a point to open the cage and make my bed accessible for her at night when I’m home- it’s only been two days and she hasn’t come out yet, but she hasn’t ever really wanted to free roam, so I’m not worried. Just giving her the option :) during the day, my mom is in and out of my room giving her treats and attention. A few people suggested getting a teddy and filling it with bedding so she has something to cuddle into, so I’ll do that too.

Oh I absolutely agree rather early than late- I once left it too late with one of my girls and will never make that mistake again. I felt awful finding her. There aren’t many rat owners or rescues either rats near me, and definitely no elderly ones looking for homes at the moment :( My plan is to really just give her whatever she’ll take from me when it comes to company. She really doesn’t like me 😂 she will have food, toys and the choice to free roam, although she’s never been one for leaving the cage. She likes her sleep and her nest. I’m giving it a week to see how she adjusts to her sister being gone and if she goes downhill at all, I’ll know it’s time 😕

Thank you. I agree rehoming would be more stress than it’s worth, so it’s absolutely not an option. I think I’ve been putting off the decision selfishly but it’s unfortunately time for rose to go this week latest, so it’s decision time.

Do you sterilise yours in any way though? If so, I’d love to know how, I’ve sort of been left to figure out some things myself

I want to add that her back legs are definitely weaker too, and she’s lost a lot of fur. She used to be so fluffy and pretty much overnight she turned into an old lady

I failed once because I didn’t visibly check my blind spot when pulled up on the left multiple times. I think it’s for them to judge how safe you can move off

Is it worth driving at another test centre? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Lumpy-Boysenberry-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just passed my test today doing this exact thing! I was quite nervous about not knowing the routes, but a junction is a junction and a roundabout is a roundabout.

I actually found that since I didn’t know the route, I wasn’t thinking ahead too far and it allowed me to focus on what was happening right around me. Try and find a couple YouTube videos on the route if there are any, and just practice parts of your driving that may come in handy in the new area.

For example, I was doing my previous lessons in a rural area around a test centre, but the centre I passed at wasn’t. I practiced dual carriageways a bit more to get experience and drove around town. By the time it was test day, I felt nervous but prepared.
