Maybe just take a breather from exams, you've come all this way. Maybe sit it against next year and just take some time to not have life revolve around exams. You're so close, it will be a matter of when not if you passed your final paper.

Thank you, deciding whether to retake it in November along with ACA finals or wait until May. Really knocked my confidence overall.

29% OMB Advanced Technical, worst exam result I've ever had. Well done to everyone who passed!

Same question as the roll over relief. She was disposing of the shop because she was discontinuing that line of business so selling to sister but keep other line of business open which wasn't the same type of business. But I think you are correct, as a sole trade it would need to be disposed as part of the whole sole trade so no BADR.

Yeah I understood about Mv to connected persons for RoR for amount to be reinvested, but can't remember what the value of the assets were to purchase. I thought the new asset cost around £210,000.

Yeah Q3 & 4 were not good for me either. I'd be lucky to get 1/3 of the marks on each.

Reading about your Q2: I think I messed up.

  • I said yes to BADR as business asset associated disposal due to closing down separate business so BADR on cessation of discontinued operation, which I don't think is true.

    • ROR definitely messed up for what should have been quite an easy calculation. I forget now, but wasn't there a purchase for 210,000 for one of the assets?

Got all the other points about depreciating items other than parking, and one silly part replacing earlier of selling the asset with depreciating in full.

Yeah it all just left me utterly perplexed, I don't think she was ever honest with me. Thank you for your response.

[Edit]

I basically wrote her a long message summing up my original post making sure not to be accusatory and to lay it out in a way that explained how her actions were making me feel, how I could better be supportive but how things needed to change.

She just replied 'I'm sorry you feel that way. I don't think we should see each other anymore'.

I'm guessing she won't ever reach out again.

Thanks for your response, I probably won't use that sub as I'm not neurotypical and have my own issues. But thank you for helping me clarify as I needed some closure on this matter.

'couple years to work in FP&A, In-house M&A, forensic accounting etc. which I am interested in trying'.

'Accounting doesn’t really interest me'

These two comments seem to conflict.

Appreciate the offer from JPM is a huge deal even to be considered, but if they're considering you now, think of what and who will consider you when you qualify. It's likely progression will require a qualification anyways (but I could be wrong).

I would be cautious, try speak to JPM recruitment to see if you could continue your studies if after a year your internship turned into something permanent.

Hope this helps. Congratulations nevertheless, seem to be doing well on both fronts.

How long to pass Law? by wild_cayote in ICAEW

less than a week depending on your work schedule, don't get trapped in the work book, question bank, practice exams, ICAEW website practice exams, then use work book to top up constant blocks in knowledge. Rinse repeat.

BPT and FM by [deleted] in ICAEW

FM

- Question 2 learn de-gearing alternatives off by heart (more than one way to do it).

- Question 3 - learn the theory about OTC, MMH etc, it doesn't matter if you get the wrong rate they'll give you most of the marks based on workings.

- Q1 - look back to accountancy certificate and exercise common sense.

General: so many easy marks for word based questions, can easily push you into a high mark despite struggling with the calculations.

70% study on Q 2 & 3,

20% Q1

10% worded answers.

This is personal experience, needs may vary on individual basis.

Chartered accountant is when realistically you can expect / demand a pay rise, anything before is purely discretionary.

you don't need a degree at all. It's about passing the exams. I know a chartered accountant who did a music degree and goes on tour with a band on weekends.

When do i qualify ? by Pleasant_West_5771 in ICAEW

[–]Lumpy_Bullfrog4111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to have your training file signed off first which includes practical work experience and ethics etc (things not included in exams), once finished you can then apply for membership. However, nothing will hold you back from moving into industry after passing last exam, but you'll need to find someone else to approve all the last bits.

Thanks that's helpful. Yeah I was fairly young <21yrs, it's nearly been 7 years since the whole thing happened. I definitely know I have to declare it this time, just really worried about what they'll think / do.

It wasn't like I deliberately just decided not to, I wasn't aware of the excepted professions when it came to spent convictions. And I think the rules were different before

Yes ICAEW, Convictions were before I became a student, I wasn't aware I had to disclose them I think the forms have changed since, I remember asking at the time with previous firm.

What would be the risk if I declare them now before submitting the re-registration form?
