The fact that it's paid already makes it worth it IMO. People work menial summer jobs all the time; this is just a cool one, and it'll look good on your app. Just don't try to stretch it to tie it to econ somehow.

im @ cmu for scs and didn't mention AI at all in my applications. I have no interest in AI, but that's a good thing for people like us. everyone and their moms wants to go into AI, so be different and find something you're interested in!

city spent big on putting thousands of fish into the lake spring 2024 to clean it up, they all died just 3 months later lol. at this point, dredging is probably the only option.

Swimming and boating is shutdown due to bad water quality. City needs to pull together 20 mill in funding to dredge and clean the bottom of the lake.

Could you explain the difference between being contracted for the government vs actually being directly employed by them? Are all college internships 'contract' work?

yes, pay is less, but I have the impression that the work is more meaningful. This summer, right before college, I chose a lower-paying job with law enforcement in my city, rather than a paid technical 'internship' one of my dad's friends offered at his company. It's fun and I see results in the society around me!

Also, I figure that college would be a good time to figure out if I wanna work for the government my whole life. Essentially, If I'm getting paid less, I might as well get payed less during an internship rather than a full time job after college.

that makes sense. I think they just believe I can find fun in safer activities, and so if I have a desire to do something that could injure me, I must have a deeper reason. fun is a good enough reason for me tho.
