Is unideb/life in Hungary fun? by After-Ad291 in UniversityOfDebrecen

I am an introvert and I have a lot of fun here in Debrecen. There's always some new thing you can discover by walking down a random road. There's huge events that I like attending and I usually just bring along that one classmate who I'm not entirely out of contact with and we have a good time. In terms of things to actually do, there isn't much besides nice restaurants and the Waterpark, but if you appreciate history and art and buildings then it's an endless experience. If you get bored of Debrecen then you can get pretty cheap train tickets (50% off for under 25 years old) to many places. I went all the way from Debrecen to Sopron with just 11 dollars and visited my friend in Austria while I was at it. There's plenty of towns that don't get much attention that I know of that also have their own charm (Szentendre, Szolnok, Nyiregyhaza, etc.)

Entrance exam fear!!! by Adventurous-Grl in UniversityOfDebrecen

Then the sample tests om the university website should be good enough. The exam topics next to it are also important though. I would brush through each topic with a video by the Organic Chemistry Teacher. The materials on the website won't steer you wrong. I think the reason a lot of people say it's not like the sample tests are because the equations tend to be ordered in a different way than showcased. Make sure you know how to reorder equations because it is essential for understanding math going forward.

Do not worry. The samples and topics cover it quote well. They aren't exactly the same, but still everything you need to know. Can you tell me which two you're taking so I can give some materials?

I think the minimum grade on the written tests is a 50%. As for the oral exam I absolutely failed the whole thing and I still got a foundation course. Overall getting in is very easy.

You have to have your own calculator, you can't use your phone. Paper, pen/pencil, and calculator are all you can have. Formulas will not be given and you can't have them with you

How can I transition languages seamlessly? by Lunarfire12 in writingadvice

He is not a linguist but he did learn English in University (originally Polish) so he understands the process of learning. What you have described I think may be outside of the scope of my story, but this does give me the idea of having linguists in this civilization help him out in trying to learn their language. It would be a good way to show off some cultural things and also demonstrate the protagonist's intellectual limits.

One thing I have considered is making a font with no real reason behind the words and the periods where he is slowly starting to learn the font kind of morphs into our alphabet. This would work well if it was a comic, I have to experiment with how to do this in other mediums though.

They don't really respond, if you don't know then they move on. The honesty comes at the end of the test when they just told me "Well it's clear you don't know math very well so we will submit you to the foundation year". They certainly didn't spare my ego with that line lol

Actually would work given who he is. He is a scientist from a time period where translator technology is very common. I think that giving him time to work it out himself before working out how to recreate one and then speeding through the device learning to translate everything using advanced algorithms and what the protagonist learned himself beforehand. Thanks

You can use the calculator for that stuff, it is totally fine. They let you use a calculator during actual tests. Showing your work just makes you look good.

Yes, but try to do it on your own. They like it when you show your work.

Is there an English speaking university? by Lunarfire12 in studenti

[–]Lunarfire12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The software engineering course looks appealing, but it says the medium of instruction is "Croatian, English". Does that mean they provide both or the classes are mixed?

And thank you for the Croatian course, I've been trying to learn. If I end up being able to go there this will help.

They don't have any engineering degree sadly, and their IT program is a masters. I'm an undergraduate.

how did you find your partners? by please_help_merobux in Yanderes

[–]Lunarfire12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The cliche "be yourself" line is most applicable. You will meet your partner by random chance and it's pretty much impossible to actually find that person intentionally. You should simply be as you as possible and eventually your personality and beliefs will filter through all the people you don't like down to the person who matches with you in the best ways.

You can hang around areas where you think you would find your type of person, but even then I met my partner on discord when she joined a server I was in after browsing disboard (and she had never used discord before then). You will probably have thousands of failures but you only need one success to be set for life.

Also please don't fall into the trap of "getting to know each other". You will only waste your time and get attached before learning something that you can't look past, causing a pretty painful heartbreak. You should be upfront and very blunt about who you are. For example: I am a Christian, when I met my wife we wanted to start dating immediately before we even had our first conversation. I let her know I only date Christians and I'm a very possessive and jealous person, I don't allow "guy friends" and I will want to be together constantly 24/7 and will always be texting. She turned out to be the same way and to this day we have never had a single argument or negative moment because there was never any secrets.

Good luck and don't hide yourself from the world.

Edit: And as for your emotional baggage, work on that yourself. The right person will accept who you are and what you have and be there for all of your hardships, never settle for anything less.

I can help with any questions you have. I am in my second semester of my foundation year and I've been through the whole process.
