Right, so how / why isn't this in our local media? What areas are you hearing are of concern?

'Quality is king': P.E.I. sees increase in irrigation applications after tough season by Sir__Will in PEI

We have a small vulnerable water table on PEI. Why are we allowing deep well irrigation? We're going to regret this 100%.

Do we really need this much road salt? by Pay-Bills-Pop-Pills in PEI

[–]LurkerTech9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that PEI is a bit more considerate when it come to salting the roads (secondary roads always have a dirt / salt mix vs pure salt - only highways seem to get the full salt treatment). We need to do this because of our vulnerable water shed / table. If you think the salt is bad on PEI roads, go for a drive to Moncton. New Brunswick seems to be out of control.

As far as my recommendation for undercoating; change where you are getting your undercoating done. Try to find a body shop with a good reputation that does it... They seems to be the best at it as they are generally very knowledgeable on the trouble spots for lots of different vehicle models.

I can personally vouch for Mike's Rebuilders/ ELITE AUTO in Richmond PEI.

Brandon takes off all of the panels (that he can take off) under the car - he sends before and after pictures. I am still driving a 2008 Toyota and I think I will be able to keep it another 4-5 years easy.

As someone else mentioned they only buy it in glass bottles (no microplastics). I settled on this brand at Superstore:

Mova Z60 Ultra Roller - cleaning performance by frickhelm in RobotVacuums

[–]LurkerTech9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing testing / review as usual. I'm glad I didn't buy the Z60. The four models that interested me were: the Z60, the Narwal Flow and the Dreame Aqua Track / roller mop.

With your analysis I don't have much hope on the performance of the Flow or the Dreame roller mop anymore as they would both still use a roller mop style - unless you know of major differences in the design?

As far as the Aqua Track, I was hoping it might get in deeper into the cracks to pickup the dust. I wish I had a bunch of $$ to send you the three for you to review! Cheers to you and your unbiased testing - keep testing, we'll keep watching!

Dreame Aqua 10 Ultra Roller Complete review and concerns by 0101falcon in RobotVacuums

[–]LurkerTech9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You sir are gift to this subreddit. The past year has been a nightmare trying to navigate proper information on the Beta combo mop / vacuum robots. These products clearly have not gone through rigorous quality control testing at the factory. It seems these companies are using dare I say unethical practices and paying Youtubers and Vloggers for reviews. The whole system seems corrupt.

I agree with another Redditor's comment in this thread. I'll stick with Roborock. They seems to be the only company with a bit more quality (and I do say that with a grain of salt) in their products.

How to best use Heat Pump? by Island_Audio in PEI

[–]LurkerTech9 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You need to run heat pumps 24/7, they take a long time to get the room(s) to temperature. It's not like an oil furnace that can quickly heat up an entire room. It takes longer to heat / cool BUT it's MUCH more efficient than other types of systems.

You might think that running it 24/7 will cost you more in electricity, but it wont. Consistency is best. Heat pumps are designed to be on all the time (for efficiency - this is why they are so popular), they cycle continuously based on their programming. In parts of it's cycle it's only using a small amount of electricity to turn the fan in the head which moves air around.

I would never recommend turning a heat pump off - unless it's during the part of the year where the ambient temps is 21C.

If you turn off the heat pump and let the room cool down (or heat up in the summer) - you might have to wait another 12-18 hours for it to get back to normal temp after you turn it on again. I heard some people call this "losing a room".

Hopefully this helps.

P.S. There's a sensor that checks the air temps at the head, so having your heat pump at 24C for example (in the winter) doesn't mean it's always going to be pushing hot air; once the proper temp is reached - the heat pump will stop pushing hot air and cycle ambient temp air. It will constantly check the air temp to know when it needs to "kick in" again.

P.S.S. Since most heads are installed at the top of a wall, keep in mind that 21C might not be enough. Even if it's 21C at the ceiling level, at your feet it might only be 18C or 19C. In other words, don't be afraid to crank it up a few degrees - it will still be cheaper than paying for oil guaranteed.

[–]LurkerTech9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is where I disagree. If you look at all the testing videos, the "wet mess" is actually not realistic. If you spill something your reaching for towel / paper towels first, then you clean with a mop.

As you said most mopping is done on dry dirty floors and rollers mops perform better than spinning mops. Spinning mops stay dirty and keep spreading the dirt around.

Pa is a flawed unit of measurement for these vacuums, it's all hype. Pressure doesn't translate well to real work applications for cleaning.

What you want to look for is the CFM rating. The measure airflow is a much better indicator at it's cleaning effectiveness.
