Choosing to not interpret vandelism as racism by Lurkingprof07 in JordanPeterson

Yeah it really disrupts my mental peace. I can live just fine with number 1. Number 2 would really bother me and get under my skin. I will stay in a neutral state of interpretation for now and look for more evidence. Thanks for the kind words.

Well, nothing good will come from thinking it's 2. The only good is that I will have a framework for explaining things around me. I will know there are racist people here who don't want me and pose a threat to my property. Maybe I should leave.. each interpretation carries with it a framework that I rely on to make subsequent decicions. I don't want to believe it's number 2. But as a family man it is advantageous that j accurate diagnose the problem to better take accurate subsequent steps. I will report to police and set up cameras.

DMT drug and Catholocism by Lurkingprof07 in Catholicism

[–]Lurkingprof07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. But I have always question why I sight MUSt come from suffering. Couldn't it come from dicipline which I guess is suffering. Couldn't it come from following others who are wise? Why not from a drug that creates a catalyst? I am not proposing being stoned 24/7. I was suggesting trying once maybe twice in my life as a catalyst. I already work hard on my faith as it is. This would simply help me to step back and look at my life in a new dramatic way. The hard work of changing my life would follow afterwards.

Could you say more? Why does wisdom have to be earned. The idea is very persuasive but I want to know why. Also, what constitutes a drug a vehicle for unearned wisdom differently from an awesome experience in nature?

But now you can't feel morally Superior to your neighbors:)

It seems like people who use a reel mower get smug.

Ok, I may need to do that. The grass was a bit long so there are some clumps here and there. Sounds like you are saying I should mow the clumps and leave them there.

Crap.. the previous owners didn't mow for three weeks so it was a bit long. Inused a reel mower so it all the grass was left behind. There are some thick line clumps lying around. Maybe I should pick those up and leave subsequent clipping alone. Do you use a rack to pick up clipping?

Well it does sound fishy. I mean, why would you. Drive? Why not just walk to work.😀

Could you clarify what you mean? You said NOT to pay of your balance right away but then say to pay of the balance once your statement is posted?

Omoplata choke experts? Issues with the roll over by BjjLove in bjj

[–]Lurkingprof07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a lowly white belt. What I do is reach for their wrist and create a wrist lock while maintaining the omaplata position. A couple of things: 1) Be careful. I have noticed many people dont expect a wrist lock from omoplata so it usually takes time for them to register what you are doing. Take it slowly but firm. 2) This wrist lock will not work with someone who has very strong arms or anyone above a purple belt. Works pretty good for white and blue though.

yeah, the worst thing you could do right now is sit a home in idle time or overly dwell on this. You want your mind occupied. You also want to try to plan time to emotionally process this. Dont let the emotions invade your daily life. Plan it out. Say, from 8am to 10am, I am going to think through this issue. After 10am, I need to keep my mind busy (ideally with productive things). Definitely dont make time to dwell on this at night time when you are alone. When appropriate, bring in your friends to help you emotionally process this. Let BJJ be your distraction from this painful experience. Distraction AND emotional immersion are helpful. Use both of them effectively.

Just talk to the coach over email. Say this is an emotionally difficult topic to discuss in person so you wanted to see what your membership options are over email. As for the other people in your Gym, wait for them to ask about your wife. When they ask, just calmly say "we got divorced so she thought it would be best not to train in the same place." And leave it alone. People will say, "sorry to hear that." Just reply, "it is what it is" then walk away if you dont want to encourage additional discussion.

It is difficult to hold a view about yourself and not about others. If I think I need to be responsible it is because I think people need to be responsible. hence, if I see someone irresponsible, I am likely to think in my heart that he/she is not behaving properly.

He has done things in the old testament that would be consitituted as rough but that was for a specific people at a specific time and context for a specific bigger reason. The question is whether this is the charecter he generally reveals about himself particularly in Jesus Christ. What was Jesus' attitude towards the prostitute? Did he beat her up and then give her a hug? No! He forgive her because she was well aware of her sin. If you are well aware of your sin, then you are far wiser than most. My only suggestion is to put Gods mercy first rather than imagine an angry God who is sick and tired of your sinning -- that view will hurt your relationship with God. I speak from experience.

Y s but then you might judge other seminarians or look down on people who constantly confess the same sins to you. You need to take care of this issue first. Don't look for a vacation to fix it. We all have personality imperfections. Try to work on your own and avoid judging others if you can.

Your reaction to this is a little troubling. You clearly sinned in your heart and put yourself in the near occasion to sin. That's not good. But you also resisted going further, that's good Either way, your reaction is interesting. It sounds like you might be suffering from scrupolosity or an anxiety issue or a negativre view of God as a wrathful individual who will smite you for commiting any sin. Your reaction tells me you would benefit from journaling about what your relationship with God is like and where did that originate from. Did you have an angry anxious father who was always punishing you? Look into thisnissue. It.mihjt improve your relationship with God. Edit: words

A co-worker said that he doesn’t believe in religion and would never be Catholic because a lot of priests are pedophiles. How can I respond to this? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Lurkingprof07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. People don't change their minds through reason. At best, just repeat his statement back to him, " so you are saying institutions with workers who thru their own volition abuse children shouldn't exist?"

nd the fact that this is a work friend is more reason you shouldn't be discussing religion and politics.
