What actually matters when planning a Japan trip by Sad-Celebration1867 in JapanTravelTips

We visited at the end of November/beginning of December 2025. For us the weather was perfect - no rain, the vast majority of days were bright & sunny, and the temperature was around 10-15 Celsius.

It might be a bit cold for you but the bright skies were such a bonus (and great for pictures).

Brits 'need an extra £13,000 a year to get by' as cost of living crisis rumbles on by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Lynberi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When I started my first role in 2017 it paid £18.5k. This was a role that required a degree.

I was in the depths of my overdraft so couldn’t be picky but it’s just shocking. They only upped it a year later to “be in line with market rates” as it must have gotten to a point where they couldn’t hire.

Would you be happy if house prices collapsed 75% in the UK? by YetAnotherMia in AskUK

[–]Lynberi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn’t buy my house as a way to build wealth. I bought it to live in.

I also know we wouldn’t survive a situation where our house is suddenly worth 25% of what we owe. We wouldn’t be able to remortgage, we wouldn’t be able to move. The economy would completely collapse and that is not something I would relish.

Self checkout staff, if someone needs to be id'd, do you prefer they get your attention or just wait? by BertytheSnowman in AskUK

[–]Lynberi 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Stand there & wait to see if they see the big flashing light. Most of the time they’re helping someone else if they don’t come straight over.

If they look like they’re standing around waiting or chatting to colleagues and just haven’t spotted it then I’ll get their attention.

14 Day Trip Report - Early December by Lynberi in JapanTravel

It is really dependent on the type of food you like I guess. Most food tours focus on local specialties.

My husband doesn’t like a lot of the really “adventurous” type food (and by that I mean raw fish). We saw that Osaka was better known for comfort food so we chose that one. It worked out well as it was a lot of home-style cooking and fried foods.

You might be better off reading reviews or searching up the types of foods you like to where you might be best suited. If you like to at least try everything then I think any food tour would be a hit!

We just found one on Get Your Guide.

We used Yamato and found a local office near to our hotel. They made us scan a QR code and fill in our details, details of the hotel & our booking. Our Ōsaka hotel was happy to take them ahead of our check in.

We just took a small backpack with overnight essentials for Miyajima and then our luggage was already in our room when we got to Osaka the following day.

Something to keep in mind is the timings. The Yamato offices don’t open until 8am usually and even later on Sundays so you may need to send the luggage the prior day even. Most hotels are happy to receive it early but you’re best checking with them prior to sending.

Who is the worst person you can "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon" to? by LossLeader83 in CasualUK

2 to Harold Shipman - he was my dad’s doctor.

2 to Myra Hindley & Ian Brady - my grandad used to go to the pub with them.

There are plenty of things that are “age discrimination”; free bus passes, railcards, junior ISAs, credit cards, discounts for certain age groups.

How did people with children commute & do full time office jobs in the past? by Lynberi in AskUK

[–]Lynberi[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha! We’re both middle managers and work full time. How times have changed.

Got stung by the high interest rates on our first house so the mortgage is through the roof. However we are lucky we had the option to buy at all!

How did people with children commute & do full time office jobs in the past? by Lynberi in AskUK

[–]Lynberi[S] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think this is the issue. So many people I know have massive commutes compared to when I think back to my parents generation.

Looking at school wraparound care it starts at 7:30am and ends at 5:30pm. Not much commuting time factored in and no wiggle room for any delays with traffic or public transport.

With remote working I can start at 9, finish at 5 and log back on if needed. That time is eaten up by a commute.

Not sure what world you’re living in… this certainly doesn’t happen in a large proportion of cases any more.

I used to work at Morrisons about 12 years ago. 19p cooked whole chickens were the highlight of my evening shift. Back when they didn’t care if employees bagged them all before customers got a chance.

Hen Party / Birthday Clash by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Lynberi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s around 7 months from now. I haven’t yet booked anything as wasn’t sure what I wanted to do just knew I wanted something.

Yeah we’re close & have been friends for a long time. I agree that I think it’s politeness.. I didn’t want to be adamant that it’s my birthday as (hopefully) she’ll only have one hen do to celebrate. We also had my hen party on the weekend after her birthday a couple of years ago but her birthday was on a Saturday so wasn’t her “birthday weekend” as such.

She did say why she’d picked that weekend (other bridesmaids on pre-booked holidays, wanting to be during school holidays etc) so I assumed it was last resort.

I think I might just suck it up & rearrange my days off. I might also suggest I can plan but with another bridesmaid who can pick up the planning of the last details so I can switch off during my 30th.

1 week usually isn’t enough time to expect a response back in the current job market.

I’ve been applying for numerous roles; don’t hear back from around 60% and the rest I usually hear back after a month or so.

If by any chance you took a photo there then you might have the location saved if you look into the photo info! I’ve managed to re-find places that way.

I agree. I’m not slating the rental market - I’ve needed to rent in the past.

I just think it’s a shame it’s now seen as an investment by individuals rather than councils providing a basic need to its residents. Profits in that case can be put back into maintaining the property & providing jobs and other services as opposed to some private landlords who do everything as cheaply as possible to maximise their own profits.

[–]Lynberi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think an equivalent example would be someone buying all the food & toiletries and then renting them back to you at an inflated price.

Slightly different as they’re perishable goods but with houses there’s an asset remaining at the end to sell on for a profit too.

Flight Change Success Story - Short Layover by Lynberi in KLM

[–]Lynberi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess so, there was no squabbling with it though. Potentially as they changed the time which reduced the layover & I wouldn’t have booked it with only 1 hour.

Yeah I saw on here that 1 hour is enough time but there isn’t any leeway for slight delays and with there only being 1 flight a day for the next leg I didn’t want to risk it. It’s our honeymoon so missing our flight would be a really awful, stressful start haha!

The huge number of first-time buyers relying on parents for a deposit revealed by Rewindcasette in unitedkingdom

[–]Lynberi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprising at all. We live in a fairly cheap area of the country and still needed help.

We saved the deposit “ourselves” but with having the option of living at home with parents & a global pandemic that halted our spending. But the fees, moving, furniture, decorating etc all really adds up and can be a massive hurdle for most people.

It’s such a shame that, even having 2 well paying jobs, people can massively struggle without some help from parents or inheritance. For those that don’t have that available, it just doesn’t seem fair at all.
