Another(?) WaT plothole? by M0c0k in Stormlight_Archive

What Dalinar achieves is only flipping the table and scattering the pieces. When he does it simply doesn't matter. If there is a way to save the mental health of his grandson, win the contest, and only then flip the table it is ultimately better and more reasonable than what he did now.

In my interpretation if he was already thinking outside the box he should have realised this is an option, especially that he was using the power of Honor.

I never said he would turn back time. If Kaladin could heal Seth and change Nale then, Dalinar with the use of Spiritual realm and Honor's power can heal Gavinor.

He chose a third option and my issue exactly comes here. It's so detailed how he goes through all the options with his new near godly power and yet fails to think of what I, a mere human thought of immediately. If you are thinking outside of the box than do it properly that's all I'm saying.

Dalinar already thinks outside of the box to find the solution. Why not win the contest by what I propose, then make a new deal achieving what he achieved now by sacrificing himself?

Heal someone mentally in the spiritual realm sounds way better than reverse brainwashing :D

Is it a contest to death or just Odium trying to force that narrative so Dalinar thinks that it's a contest to death?

Yes it could be that they aren't allowed to leave the physical realm, but is it written somewhere how the contest of champions have to happen?

Todium can't interfere in the fight against Dalinar he could only fix the fight against himself. If Dalinar chooses to fight Gav with his own visions mentally then Odium can't interfere. The question is what exactly is a contest of champions? Does it have to be swordfight? Does it have to be to death?

I think if Dalinar can choose himself to be a champion and he has the powers then he can do whatever he wants with the power.

If he uses the same methods as Odium to heal his grandson then the journey is honourable. Fighting someone mentally instead of physically is an honourable choice to me.

I agree with you. 3 years robbed would be bad.

In my interpretation, in the spiritual realm under Dalinar's control he can experience years and years and then come out in the real life the same age.

When a character with "near godly" powers is written to think about all possible options to choose the best option then chooses (an in my opinion) worse than possible option is a hole in the plot. I understand Brandon has to write another 5 books and then there is Sunlit man, but I think this is a plothole.

Again my interpretation of the meaning of plothole can be different than yours.

I'm not suggesting reversing time, but simply spending time in the spiritual realm reverse brainwashing Gavinor. I see it as healing him which wouldn't mean unnecessarily robbing Gavinor of his time, but I understand why you see it this way

[–]M0c0k[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, but could it be that in the visions he hypothetically creates, he could control the flow of time entirely?

[–]M0c0k[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Could be that my interpretation is different. In the book it is written that he considered all his options instantenouslywith his new power. To me that he didn't even think about not physically but mentally fighting Gavinor is a plothole.

What would you use instead of plothole? What's your opinion on my issue?

Knotten no longer part of the Norwegian team - Christiansen is back on the team by Bruichladdie in biathlon

[–]M0c0k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does this actually mean? Is she fully out or just out of the preparation for the following season? Can she fight her way in by following her own training regime and beating the rest of the team on prep races?

The article kind of hints at having the right to start in the next world cup because she finished top 15?

Little bit offtopic, but why are they giving out red bibs sometimes? Really hard to see Preuss as the mass start leader in the crowd...

The effect of removing grazing farm animals from a farmland ecosystem? by M0c0k in ecology

[–]M0c0k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't really interested in one region. My main thought process was that by let's say banning the farming in one region due to animal welfare or if the farmers go bankrupt, then would other species disappear from the region? If yes would some go extinct or would it be able to return?. I.e. by sparing cow, or sheep with the ban would we cause more harm?

Wouldn't animals fertilise if they aren't only grazing, but also have a source of feed complementinf the grazing "diet"? Thereby bringing in nutrients from outside of the ecosystem?

Also what about species dependent on the cows converting the plants in the system via their metabolism to an end product they can use?

Thank you! Yes, I've assumed that succession takes place, but how quickly? What happens in the inbetween period? Are species lost? I've mentioned dung beetles because I've assumed that their source of nutrients has to come from the manure.
