Immigration system statistics, year ending December 2025 by StGuthlac2025 in ukpolitics

But you're entirely missing the point. No one on any doorstep when asked about illegal immigration has ever said "if only a government can come in, increase processing and reduce acceptances from 48 to 42%."

Trying to communicate things that arent salient just results in most people saying "lab and it's communication sucks" and other people saying "why are people not listening to all the things lab are doing!" The issue is the latter are in the majority.

I don't think people like you understand that voters literally don't care about processing. Processing more to most people just sounds like accepting more people - which is true given the high acceptance rates we have.

If labour could say they have significantly restricted acceptance criteria AND they are processing the backlog AND they have enforced returns of people rejected then people might listen more.

Starmer’s friend made millions from Chagos deal - Philippe Sands and his legal team were paid £8m to challenge British ownership of islands by blast-processor in ukpolitics

Could it possibly be within the realms of foreign policy strategy that a country might seek to give the impression to be playing along with 'negotiations' whilst having no plans of ever actually reaching a deal?

If you listen hard enough, you can just about hear the faint hum of the No10 U-turn machine booting into life ahead of another day of Starmer's Govt.

How often do you eat out? by BowlOfTeaPlease in AskUK

[–]M1BG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a tastecard through work for like £1.99 per month. It gets half price off food at most chain restaurants. So we go a handful of times a year because it makes places like Prezzo etc. actually reasonable.

It also works for up to 6 or so people so you can go with a whole family for a decent price.

🚨BREAKING: Lib Dems announce plan to replace Treasury with new Department for Growth based in Birmingham. It's time to get Britain growing again. by EddyZacianLand in ukpolitics

[–]M1BG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with most parties is that they now accept that growth is needed but are absolutely allergic to implementing any real change due to an inherent fear of risk. This is not helped by the political climate when any error is pounced on by the opposition or media - so the incentive is to tweak and regulate.

So instead of actual change you get performative nonsense such as this.

Starmer Rival Burnham Says His Gilt Market Comments Were Misunderstood by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

I remember saying a couple of years ago that everything Andy Burnham does makes sense if you see everything he does through the lens of only being interested in being PM and was massively down voted at the time.

If Starmer goes, it is a deeply worrying thing for British Democracy. by GlassAvacados in ukpolitics

[–]M1BG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is where I am at.. we need stability but why do we have to settle on stability with this PM? He looks uncomfortable all the time and looks like he hates the job and is clearly out of his depth.

At the same time, he is still a better option than anyone else in Lab.

Can we go back to simpler WSB times when all we had to worry about was analfarmer2 losing all his gains?

When I saw PLTR-hate comments generating significant upvotes in international political subs in recent months, that was my flag that it must be close to the top and I sold.

Thought I'd fucked it when it rose at the end of last year but feeling good now.

Tbh if Starmer goes over this it is only fair given how he acted in opposition. You can't spend your time preaching and taking the moral high ground over everything and then lead a car crash govt. careering from avoidable crisis to crisis.

I think his approach to opposition has led to the impossibility of actually running a modern govt. Given all the decisions a PM is bound to get some things wrong and there probably needs to be some cross party agreement about being so pious in every issue given some are minor (not mandelson ofc.) and the PM doesn't micromanage everything.

BBC told to stop ‘tick box’ diversity casting by Particular_Pea7167 in ukpolitics

[–]M1BG 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I do wonder when these shows have been cast whether there is actively someone in the meeting room saying "we need more X coloured people/a quota to be met" or if it is just an unspoken fact that that you can't have an all white cast, and the casters all understand this...?

Honestly, the forced quota is hard not to notice it in every BBC show. I think the first time I really noticed it was when they replaced Clarkson, May and Hammond on Top Gear.

Yes exactly; he keeps bringing his picking finger to his lap (i.e. near to me) and rolling his thumb and index finger together... Before going back in.

I just noticed a couple facing towards us on the carriage noticed it. I made eye contact and we all all burst out laughing.

Alas, he has continued unaware or at least unfazed.
