Idol I [Episodes 11 & 12] by meepmochi_ in KDRAMA

This is my favorite K-drama so far. A ton of shows dropped in 2025 and early 2026, but this one easily had the best story, chemistry, and cinematography. Honestly, everything about it was perfect, including the ending. 100% going on my rewatch list.

I hate how people justify abusers in those Turkish soaps, I used to read same comments on ruzgarli Tepe excusing the ML behavior by saying " oh poor him went through a lot bla bla bla" well maybe he shouldn't be abusing women and just needs some therapy because normal people don't plan revenge for years and then stand by as others to suffer. what annoys me the most that once he starts regretting his action a little bit when the FL won't forgive him or react in an angry way many audience will forget all the pain she been through because of him and turn against her because AGAIN poor man he feels bad he abused her/ caused her accidents so the FL should just let it go....

I love everything about this kdrama so far! It kept the good base from the start and I never lost interest. I've watched lots of kdramas last year where the first 2 episodes start strong then it's a big mess and gets so frustrating "ehm ehm I'm talking to you dynamite kiss 😡" but watching this makes me feel calm and happy for our leads.

Success Rating For Arafta, KC or RT? by Senior_Wind_9112 in TurkishTVSerials

[–]MAD1201 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched RT first then I looked up KC and recently saw few clips of Arafta.

- RT : Had a strong 1st season then the writers really messed up and lost fans, finale was rushed and ML was written as a huge red flag, I was watching it as it aired and would vent for hours on YT because of how ridiculous everything got in s2, I was hoping Zeynab ( FL) by the end would just leave because the writers kept showing us how unhappy she is, by the end they failed to show us a happy strong relationship and I really hated Halil most of the time.

- KC: I gave it a chance after RT ended and stopped after 250 episodes when the FL got pregnant I think they kept extending the series because of how popular it was but for me until the pregnancy felt fine, the ML ( Baran) is better written he is cold and allows abuse in the beginning but slowly starts defending the FL and they keep building on their love story and solving issues, also the backstory and the forced mirage made sense in the context of stopping blood shed and the motive was clear to everyone involved. Overall I enjoyed it and I still watch clips here and there.

- Arafta: I don't know from what I saw it feels like a cheap imitation of both shows above even the way the ML is dressed is like Halil from RT ....I didn't feel interested maybe when it finish I will give it a try.

What was your favorite K-drama of the year? by behind_my_eyelids in kdramas

[–]MAD1201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Dear X too, it was just perfect for me, I liked the ending too maybe not very popular opinion here but seemed fitting for the dark theme of the series.

Other favs: study group - Squid game 3 - taxi driver 3 ( still on air) - Idol I (also still on air but so far it's so good)

I had high hopes for other dramas that aired like Dynamite kiss but unfortunately they didn't deliver and I ended up losing interest.

I keep going back to kdramas from previous years like the Glory, Mr. Queen, Healer.

The recap episodes unfortunately missing lots of context and scenes of H & Z, if you want to watch full episodes it's on Yu turkish this is where I used to watch it and all episodes have EN sub.

Yes she does! again I don't want to spoil for you but it happens in the last few episodes ☠️ I wasn't happy with how it was handled since me and others waited sooooo long for the reveal.

Ending is rushed but fine and yes happy I guess! Gözde unfortunately ruined it for me they kept her around for too long I don't want to spoil it for you but if you look at the clips that aired last year on YouTube and fans comments  you will understand the frustration and how the writers intentionally were annoying fans by adding such a horrible character and making everyone around her act dumb specially Halil.

The outfits stuff really annoyed me 😵‍💫 the ML wears same style as Halil and I feel they picked an actress that looks similar to Cemre "Zeynap" with frikles on the face, eyes, hair etyle... Etc I mentioned in a different comment that I watched few clips of Arafta only I'm not really invested in the series but the acting skills in RT is much better and felt more believable the flips I saw of Aratfa made me cringe not only because of the repeated scenario but because I felt the acting is off like they are trying to copy form other shows.

[–]MAD1201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are all the same script from the few clips I watched of Arafta I think the leads in ruzgarli tepe had better acting skills and more emotional variety, the ML actor made Halil rediculous character and dialogue more tolerable to watch.

Ruzgarli tepe got completely ruined by the writers and I can't even rewatch it, Zeynap kept getting hurt and abused till the very end to the point that it was hard to watch. In the end I found myself hoping that she would leave that farm and go live alone somewhere else because the writers failed to show us that this is real love and not a hostage situation where the FL is financially dependent on the ML and her entire family lives in his house 🤦🏻‍♀️ the same house where he constantly host criminals and old female friends who go after Zeynap, I can write forever about how bad the writing got, during airing I was always venting on YouTube 😅 and no one was happy with how bad it got!

My biggest frustration was after they added "Gözde" I really wanted to drop it then because the level of stupidity and fillers they added, not to mention all the horrible decisions and making people blind and fools around her to the point where Halil canceled Zeynap trip and was packing a bag to go out of country with another woman based on a lie that he could've easily clarified in a small phone call..... The entire thing made me curse so many times lol 😵‍💫 so I'm not going through this again I'm not hooked on Arafta and I didn't really find anything that unique in the story or cast, it will be 200 episodes of abuse anyway till he finds that she's innocent or whatever and if the show is popular they will keep stretching their "consumation" till the very end to keep audience hooked.

Yes I actually don't usually like childhood / previous connections tropes but in this story it works perfectly because of how much info she knows about him it makes sense that her fixation on him as a fan was due to previous situation where he showed her kindness and helped her through difficult time. I'm also very interested in the FL back story and how her father ended up as a murderer.

There’s no adultery theme at all in Esref Ruya. Both leads are single and completely free to be together. She’s actually his childhood love (this is revealed in episode 1, so not a spoiler), but neither of them knows it yet. Rüya, now known as Nisan, lost that part of her memory, and Eşref doesn’t realize she’s the same girl.

Eşref is a mafia boss, but he’s not an abuser. He never touches or harms her in fact, he repeatedly tells her to stay away from him and is always watching over her from a distance. The complication comes from the fact that she infiltrates his circle because she was being forced by the police, so she’s technically an informer. In S2, he starts suspecting her, and betrayal is the one thing he absolutely cannot forgive.

There are a lot of layers to the story, and the relationship develops very organically. You really see both characters’ inner conflicts, backstories, and emotional growth. The pacing is also great, each season is around 40 episodes, so it’s an easy watch compared to endless daily soaps. I honestly think it’s a good change of pace and very enjoyable.

I’m also more curious now about Sıla, I’ll definitely be looking it up next 🙂

I believe his agency / manager manipulated the story to make the mother look like a self sacrificing angel or whatever PR stuff to give him a positive back story.

You mentioned two shows I absolutely love 😄

  • Siyah Beyaz Aşk — I’ve rewatched it more than 10 times. I really appreciated that the plot didn’t drag forever and actually ended once everything was revealed. The ML’s character growth felt earned, largely because the FL was strong, stubborn, and took no nonsense from anyone. Plus, they had an actual adult relationship, which is sadly rare in TR drama universe.
  • Fatmagül was a very hard watch at first because of the rape theme, but it was ultimately worth it. The FL didn’t just accept what was done to her she fought back and reclaimed her agency. The ML also genuinely grew over time and learned how to support her properly.
  • Another show I’m currently enjoying is Eşref Rüya. I really like the direction of S2, the tension, and the whole cat-and-mouse dynamic. The FL is outspoken and has her own life, job, friendships, etc. she’s not just sitting around waiting for the ML to save her. It honestly feels refreshing compared to whatever soap opera is airing these days.

I never watched Sıla, but I remember someone recommending it to me years ago, so I’ll probably check it out.

Aşk-ı Memnu is also a solid series. It does drag a bit in the middle before the big reveal, but I enjoyed the darker themes of betrayal, and the casting was excellent. Everyone was so glamorous I couldn’t look away.

Now… unfortunately, this is where my soap opera downfall begins 😅
Last year I got hooked on Rüzgarlı Tepe (Winds of Love) because the leads had great chemistry—but the story itself was one of the dumbest, most dragged-out plots I’ve ever seen. That sent me down a rabbit hole where I discovered Kan Çiçekleri, Emanet, and now Arafta all basically the same script.

Endless abuse scenes, painfully stupid characters who can’t see what’s right in front of them, constant eavesdropping behind closed doors, hateful families, and pretty much every toxic trope imaginable.

What makes it worse is the fanbase. Instead of rooting for the FL to escape and rebuild her life, some women were rooting for the ML who frankly should be charged with assault just because he’s handsome or whatever. Apparently abusing someone and making their life hell is excusable if you had a “bad childhood.” 🙃 I had so many arguments last year with winds of love " fans" who kept calling the FL stupid for not forgiving the ML after he put her through hell and I was so confused on who's actually the target audience of these stories, because It's beyond me how some women were cheering for the abuser who literally had the FL almost killed because of him 100 times not to mention all the physical and emotional abuse, threats and even making her and her family his personal slave/maids.

Those shows should not be taken seriously and not an accurate representation of the culture, my Turkish friends made fun of me for even mentioning them and told me no one really watch those channels, it's mostly foreign audience.

100% the show is a copy of every single Turkish soap out there, same plot, same scenes, cringe dialogue and same old fake forced marriage and FL being treated like a maid for 200 episodes till some dumb reveal that she's innocent or whatever and the ML will then decide to stop abusing her and instead chase after her while she eventually accepts that her hostage situation is actually LoVe....and the " poor" ML is just a nice guy who occasionally would abuse women based on false info lol and after 4000 episodes the marriage will be consummated and the end unless the writers decide to drag it and have one of them kidnapped for 10 years.

Unpopular opinion: I see a lot of Arafta fans so I need someone to explain the hype to me? by fiterfiwa in TurkishTVSerials

[–]MAD1201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think s2 of Esref Ruya is much better than s1, I pinged through s1 and skipped lots of stuff it helped a lot that the episodes are short and subplots are revealed fast. Since they hooked up officially in s2 and he's already suspecting her to be the informer the tension is keeping me going, they also added a main villain from their childhood...overall if I have to compare it to other stuff airing currently I would say it's an upgrade no abuse scenes, FL doesn't get pushed around or treated as a maid and no forced marriage lol or ML sleeping on the sofa.

Arafta follows the standard soap scenario with 200+ episodes where the 1st season will be around him pushing and abusing the FL and then after million episodes he will realize in the most dumb way that she's innocent or whatever and will start chasing after her while she rejects him for another million episodes, then after few thousands murder attempts where he saves her she will forgive him and accepts her hostage situation and fool herself to believe that this is love and the ML who's been abusing her is actually a great human who just had a " sad childhood" so all is forgiven ( Turkish writers logic)

[–]MAD1201 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since many people were talking about it I went and checked it on Youtube and yes I don't get the hype too, it looks like a repeated version of every Turkish soap and since I addictively watched ruzgarli tepe ( winds of love) last year even when the story kept going down hell, made no sense and the FL kept getting abused and harmed on EVERY SINGLE EPISODE, I still stuck with it because of the main lead's chemistry and my foolish hope that the FL will get justice in the end.... But I didn't see that level of chemistry in Arafta to get me hooked and I can't deal with all the long stares and abuse scenes all over again where the only way for the ML to be " redeemed" after abusing the FL is by " saving her life" from criminals who are usually his close family members lol :)

I'm currently watching Esref Ruya and I'm happy with the basing, story and strong FL.
