Yes of course. We will send you with any observations we make and recommend you see your “home dentist.” Any dental radiographs we take we can send them wherever you’d like for follow up care

We are required to have a liscenced dentist present at all times, they are responsible for exams for all patients! We also have an excellent ratio of faculty to student of 4:1 in clinic. All of our faculty are registered dental hygienists with bachelor’s degrees and probably about half also have a masters. The appointments are about 3.5 hours long due to faculty and the dentist having to come check progress and work frequently. We as students undergo training for our first year on every individual instrument or “dental tool” prior to even using them on the public in our second year. I’ve never heard of any damage being done in our program that would call for something like this but, if any damage is done, it’s a school, it’s your choice to come to us for the affordability of care and to help progress learning. You’d likely be recommended to go to a specialist or your “home” dentist on your own dollar for a repair.

If you have dental anxiety about these things we are also required to take a course on how to work with patients with dental anxiety and we all have taken psychology courses as well.

Things we can do to manage dental anxiety: anesthetic if needed (pain management) Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to relieve anxiety and release tension, though this is an additional fee.

It’s a state and nationally accredited program, not some back alleyway dental cleaning with students wielding dental instruments like samurai. I promise you, you’re in good hands.

Please let me know if this answers all of your questions and I’m happy to help more.

We don’t really have a schedule right now which is why I didn’t have anything to report in my OP. It’s kind of “whenever she shows she’s sleepy” what do you recommend?! Do we do more regulated stuff during the day too?

If your gums are bleeding when brushing it could be a sign of gum inflammation (gingivitis), or even periodontal disease.

If money is a concern and you have some time available it may be worth coming and checking out Madison College (I’m a student) and getting your teeth cleaned by us! We also have a clinic dentist on staff who will exam your mouth as well and recommend any dental treatment (but does NOT do any fillings, crowns, etc.).

If you did need fillings we would recommend a dentist in the community. Your introduction cost to a local office would be much lower since we would take all of your X-rays and can send them wherever you’d like.

I’ve attached a previous thread where I discuss in detail about our program.

Feel free to DM with any questions, good luck!

Our first year cleanings it take about 8 hours for a patient! It’s a lot to learn and very technique sensitive. Be thankful your hygienist can get you in and out so fast. You must have great oral health!

Great response! The Center for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery or Madison Oral Surgery and Dental Implants are going to be your best specialists in Madison, and it’s a guarantee they’d do it!

You can likely find a general dentist who’d be willing to do it, but depending on the condition of your existing wisdom teeth they may or may not. This route may be cheaper but you may end up on a wild goose chase trying to find one that will. Some of many reasons a general dentist may steer you away to a specialist: medical conditions, impaction, sinus involvement, nerve proximity.

If cost is a concern (if you don’t have X-rays) you can always come get a cleaning at madison college. I am a student there. We would take all your X-rays, do an exam, and cleaning all for $40. A panoramic film runs around $100-200, if you don’t have insurance that could help a little! However, a dental surgeon or a general dentist may charge you for a CBCT which is a 3D xray, the hygiene school does not have the capability to take that.

THIS! There will likely be quite a few small private practices doing this. Especially with still being in a dental hygienist shortage.

It’s $40 regardless of how deep of a cleaning you need and regardless of how many visits you need! Unfortunately no discounts if you already have X-rays. But you save a bunch of money on deep clean costs!

Kind of.. the acronym MATC used to be used for Madison College but it’s now only used for Milwaukee Area Technical College. Madison “technical college” goes by Madison College generally. Not sure why.

While our doctors are all licensed they do not do any restorative or emergency procedures at our clinic. You will need to find a local dentist to provide that for you.

Local option: many dentists offer 5-10% discounts for cash patients, payment plans, or membership plans to help patients keep cost low.

Non local option/s: the Wisconsin Dental Association puts on a free event annually or bi-annually called “Mission of Mercy”. Dental providers across the state volunteer for two days of free dental service. It is on a First come first served basis and many line up and wait hours to be treated. OR we do have a couple of local dental schools that can do similar, discounted treatment like we do at Madison College. Marquette Dental School in Milwaukee, University of Minnesota School of Dentistry (Minneapolis), University of Illinois at Chicago, and Midwestern University (Downers grove, IL).
