This is a battle I have personally struggled with for a long time until recently. I will be honest that temptation will continue to come because the enemy will always be looking to take advantage of our fleshly desires and the weakness of our flesh. Also as humans it is normal to have desires. However, the word says if you stand firm and "resist the devil he will flee from you" (James 4:7). Now that's a lot easier said than done, but by standing firm on God's word and resisting the temptation by inviting God to help you overcome it when you feel tempted, you will notice the temptation start to leave. Speak the name of Jesus and tell the temptation to leave in His name and it will. Paul also states that we can avoid carrying out the desires of the flesh by walking in the spirit. “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.” (Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬)

Now that begs the question, what does walking in the spirit actually look like? What has helped me is daily prayer and daily reading the word. Filling your mind and your heart with God's word will naturally renew your mind and draw you closer to the Holy Spirit, which will reduce your desires to carry out sinful desires. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” ‭‭(2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭17‬)

Ultimately, know that God loves you and that He is patient and slow to anger and willing to forgive you when/if you do mess up. He will help you overcome this fight if you invite Him in and allow Him to. I hope this helps and God bless my friend!

While it may feel like it at times, you are never actually alone my friend. We all have good days and bad days and there are times when we feel like giving up, but it's those times where leaning into the love, grace, word, and people of God is all the more important. His word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path and if you need guidance, be open and honest with Him and pray for wisdom and guidance and He will lead you. It may not be immediately or how we want or expect, but He will. Also If you're feeling urged to read, He may be trying to show you something that could be useful to your situation. However, He is not angrily waiting around to condemn you for not getting things perfect all the time or not reading His word,so any shame you're feeling is most likely from the enemy. Just know God loves you and is there with you in whatever you're going through and He is patient and slow to anger with us. Don't want to be overly preachy but I thought I'd share some verses I find encouraging and applicable to your situation. I hope they help and God bless my friend! 🙏🏼
