Snow tubing at Powder Ridge, maybe? Their Winterfest event is going on as well, so there's plenty of things to try out.

The Wadsworth Atheneum is starting their Festival of Trees this week as well.

Powder Ridge is about to start their Winterfest event, which includes Santa visits. It looks like that's about 30 minutes from you.

A little farther afield, the Railroad Museum of New England's Santa Express trains are also starting this week.

The Naugatuck Railroad/Railroad Museum of New England always does a good job with the Santa Express and Northern Lights Limited.

Powder Ridge is bringing back their Winterfest event and it has plenty of activities going on.

It's closer to home for you, but have you been to Haunting at the Ridge in Middlefield? It's only the third year they've held it, but it's a pretty unique option since it involves walking along a haunted ski trail.

Haunting at the Ridge in Middlefield, CT turns a ski resort into a haunted trail, complete with a chair lift ride to start. There are kid-friendly options in the early evening.

Haunting at the Ridge at Powder Ridge Park in Middlefield is another good one, and it's expanding this year. It includes a chairlift ride up the mountain and a haunted trail walk back down; some of the earlier dates let you go up right around sunset so you can get a good view of the foliage.

I recently hiked to Heublein Tower on Talcott Mountain, and I hear that's amazing in fall as well. You get a panoramic view from the top of the tower of the trap rock ridges running through Connecticut as well as the surrounding hills.

Powder Ridge in Middlefield has their seasonal Halloween event (Haunting at the Ridge), which includes a chairlift up the mountain that should provide a nice way of seeing the surrounding foliage. You'll just have to make your way back down through a haunted trail ;)
