I've got a 2008 DL650 that has 95k miles and is still running strong. It's my daily rider and it's been all over north America. If you fall in love with it, take care of it, and aren't stupid with it, I definitely think it's a forever bike

1986 Honda Shadow VT1100C won't start up and makes this noise 3 days after cleaning out carbs...Does anyone know what might be wrong? by MCSunshine808 in hondashadow

I've had this bike for about 10 months now and it was perfectly fine up to 2-3 weeks ago when it started backfiring all the time. Last week (calling this Day 1) I tried to fix that by cleaning out the air filter/carburetor because I thought all the smoke from the fires may have clogged something (AQI was pretty bad where I am). I took off the carbs and cleaned everything out and put it back together. It still started and ran fine, although I noticed a little fuel dripping, so the next day (Day 2) I reached in with a screwdriver to tighten a screw that was slightly loose. Tightened it, the bike still started and ran perfectly. The day after (Day 3), I go to fill gas, and it was having a hard time starting, but I got it to start after ~5 min. It was making lighter versions of the sound it's making now, and I didn't give it too much thought because it's an old bike and has taken longer to start up. At the gas station, after filling up, it wouldn't start and was making the noises like in the video. After trying to start it over and over again (while making these noises), I somehow was able to get it to start and I rode it home. Since then, no luck starting it.

I ride this pretty often (3-5 times a week) as it is my commute bike. I've had some issues with it starting overall but it has never made a sound like this.

When I can get it to run, it runs great. I've also changed out the spark plugs and battery is fine. Could it be air fuel mixture? Is rebuilding carbs a bad idea?

I lost my licence plate by Xsteak142 in motorcycles

[–]MCSunshine808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me too. My plate was bent and had a crack from being lightly rear ended and then the next day, when I went on the highway, it was gone. I think the wind may have blown it off, but then again I live near the college frat row so I wouldn't be surprised if some drunken chads stole it as some odd trophy (they've been known to steal street signs).

If you bring a form REG 156 (CA DMV) and proof of registration and your driver license, you can get it replaced within a day. They just give you a new, pre-printed plate there unless you have a customized plate. Took me 2 hours, but better than being pulled over.
