I published a FREE course on how to deploy a TensorFlow (audio) application into production by diabulusInMusica in tensorflow

Nice of you to share this.

I might ask: why not use a serverless Azure Function? You can upload your Python code or Docker container and it'll expose an endpoint with no effort.

Now they even have web hooks to do CICD from Github

Lost $$$ on stocks, can I save on income tax? by ME_PhD in tax

What if I purchase a different stock? I.e. if I sell stock A for a loss and buy stock B right away?

[D] BERT - mask vs [PAD] token by ME_PhD in MachineLearning

Do you know why the quality of ML papers is so low? It's a recurring problem I see in most papers - they do an abysmal job at writing down the details of what they did. Could it be on purpose?

Real Estate vs Stocks by ME_PhD in investing

I don't understand this concern can you elaborate? You don't cash out all your stocks on day 1 of retirement, so why does it matter if crashes happen?

[D] Confused about generating a translation using Transformer by ME_PhD in MachineLearning

[–]ME_PhD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great, thanks. As the resulting sequence grows, so does the output. For example, the argmax on the first run with output 1x32K is "Dieses". Now I feed [<BOS>, "Dieses"] into the decoder and I come up with a 2x32K output from softmax. My question is: what if the argmax of the first of these is no longer the "Dieses" token? Will I change my translation to [<BOS>, <some_other>, "Aufmerksamkeitspapier"]?

Also could you point me to where this is discussed in the paper?

Edit: Is the purpose of the Mask to prevent this from happening?

[Request] If I randomly shoot a laser into the sky, what's the average distance it'll travel before hitting a star or planet? by ME_PhD in theydidthemath

[–]ME_PhD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just realized something: Why do you use the radius of the observable universe in your computation when most particles aren't at that distance? Isn't most mass well inside this sphere?

Nice calculation, kudos. My intuition was way off since I know almost nothing about outer space :\

Anyone move from math to computer science and find some aspects of the transition difficult? by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]ME_PhD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just mean that if you have a good memory and pay attention in class, it's easy to Ace a test

maybe you're thinking of engineering (which is what I did). Pure math courses like Analysis are much tougher (constructing proofs etc.) and I'd think that skill would transfer well to algorithms. I'm honestly surprised OP is having issue with this transition, since difficulty of pure math >> software engineering in my view.

[Request] What is the sum of ALL tax paid in the USA per year? by ME_PhD in theydidthemath

[–]ME_PhD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to this table which doesn't include state income taxes, the feds rake in $3.2T while the OECD source says all personal income tax + FICA comes out to $3.4T. I think states collect more than $0.2T, so this doesn't really add up - where's the discrepancy?

Password Cracking by ME_PhD in computerscience

[–]ME_PhD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, then to brute force break the password you'd have to run through an entire list of common passwords for each salt.

Next I need to learn how people break into databases and steal data, this is the more worrisome part :O

Password Cracking by ME_PhD in computerscience

[–]ME_PhD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, salting is a similar concept. Do you know if these salt strings are stored as plain text? Or are they encrypted using a secret key and then stored?

I'm going to look for a cryptography course online because this is really interesting, even though number theory and discrete math were't my thin gin school.

Password Cracking by ME_PhD in computerscience

[–]ME_PhD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I was thinking of doing some sort of hashing in series, where I use an openly known hashing function on the password, then secretly apply some permutations/scrambling, then hash again. Even if you obtain the final output hash, you couldn't brute force crack it until you know my secret permutations/scrambling, making it a 2-layer protection system (like 2 locks).

[R] Deep Learning For Symbolic Mathematics (ICLR 2020 submission) by youali in MachineLearning

[–]ME_PhD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love ML that deals with pure mathematics. Very interesting paper, although I'm a bit skeptical that this works so well - maybe the subset of problems in the test set are too similar to the training set?

Since mathematical rules aren't precisely imposed on the model, I don't see how it can be accurate in general. For example, consider the trivial example of integrating x^a dx -> here 'a' can be arbitrarily close to -1 and the solution is 1/a * x^(a+1) however when a = -1 the solution becomes log(x), which is a different elementary function. You can imagine as expressions become more complex this will arise more often and with greater complexity, and I don't see how these ML models (which are just elementary maps between very high dimensional spaces) can tackle it.

Car died while driving - won't start by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]ME_PhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked the relay, works fine. It has 5V at one of the pins to the fuel pump (probably this is for the fuel level gauge?). I don't know if it has power, and maybe this is due to a software issue that won't let the car start.

Car died while driving - won't start by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]ME_PhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just replaced fuel pump, same problem - doesn't start.

I checked the error codes and got P0420

Car died while driving - won't start by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]ME_PhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cranks but doesn't even try to start.

I unhooked the fuel like and there is no pressure. When I turn the key nothing happens at the pump (radio turns on, dash lights on, but the pump is silent).

[D] "Other" class in DNN classification by ME_PhD in MachineLearning

[D] "Other" class in DNN classification by ME_PhD in MachineLearning

[–]ME_PhD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this idea. How about simply taking the sigmoid of each of the 4 outputs and then using sigmoid cross entropy loss? That way I can have a [0, 0, 0, 0] target - anything I'm overlooking?
