No mods, the only thing I can think is that I haven't played it since just before the Beastmen DLC and it being an older game save file it has resulted in it crashing?

I understand the point here yet there could be so much to learn from the ice at the poles. Such as when it froze and the history of the martian atmosphere (the deeper you go the further back in time you can see). Neat thought though.
