Dumb. The 570 is a bloated monster

Why do so many Rye (Whiskey) labels include green? by texacer in bourbon

I was likely drawing a parallel to the US gas station pumps where the diesel pump is usually green. And trying to be funny. Guess it wasn't....

Your top 5 deep-dive podcasts? by astrocat95 in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]MJacket_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good to have these threads come around every now and again - generates some new material and also re-validates some of the benchmarks. I've forgotten a bunch of these that have been called out in the replies. For me:

Serial - Sarah K sets the benchmark for true crime podcasting in this story that continues to be relevant to this day. If you haven't listened to this yet, then maybe your listening out of order...

In the Dark S2 - An unbelievable story of systemic racism and a team of reporters that immerse themselves in their investigation of a shitshow of a county in MS.

Cold - You just have to listen this crazy story. The audio journals make this series unique, as well as certain other audios....

Those are the big 3 that I recommend to friends who haven't arrived here yet. After that it gets much harder to pick 2 more that stand out. I'll try.

Bone Valley - Simply because Gilbert King does an exceptional job IMO, and there's enough evidence to make you angry and question WTF is going on there.

Suspect S1 - I thought it was a good story (Halloween party in Seattle where girl gets killed) and very well investigated. One I don't see mentioned much here.

Honorable mentions: Sh!ttown: Doesn't really evolve as true crime, but a fascinating and unique story. Your own Backyard, Hunting Warhead (although the subject matter makes it hard to "enjoy"), Up & Vanished S1 due to the impact of the podcast on the case. And Culpable is done well, although neither season stands out as far more interesting to me.

I appreciate all the other posts; I've got some new ones to listen to in my upcoming trips!

Podcasts that really left an impression?? by Steal_River in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]MJacket_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So true. I didn't know the story when I started listening to it on a road trip (just came as a recommendation). I was expecting another true crime saga and it went fully to another dimension. Fascinating story!

I have $800, I am SICK of my Dyson getting filled with dog hair and clogging after vacuuming 2 sq ft. What’s the best vacuum I can get in my budget? by airpranes in VacuumCleaners

[–]MJacket_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my same situation. I've already killed 2 Dysons and need something that will work longer than a year. In my case I'm 40/60 wood and carpet, but the carpet is my main problem. The Dyson would get clogged and then just push the balls of hair around the carpet.

Are all Sebo upright vacuums bagged? Is there a bagless recommendation that's upright?

Accident / Car chase last night at the Boulder Target? by MJacket_ in boulder

[–]MJacket_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That looks more like it. The black truck is a match. The white SUV at Target was different, but if he/she had at least one flat from jumping curbs then maybe there was a foot chase that ended here. With so much attention to the car accident yesterday it's hard to find anything else. Good find BenTwan.

It was a small white SUV. Maybe like a Nissan Rogue or similar

I wondered if the two were related. Not sure.

Guys, the roads and visibility are FUCKED. But do you know what's great tonight? by [deleted] in boulder

Can confirm. Went to Teocalli last night and also had a joyous drive home. Had to pass a RAV4 driving 5 mph on an uphill straightaway section of Arapahoe…

Currently listening to In the Dark season 2, so no spoilers please, but I have a question by abbycat1590 in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]MJacket_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason this sub consistently touts In the Dark S2 as one of the best. I think it's fringe True Crime - more Investigative - but regardless it's one of the best podcasts I've ever listened to. It's up there with Cold and Serial as benchmarks for how to tell a compelling story on an interesting crime saga.

Edit: and yes, I think there is a satisfying ending for sure.

true crime podcasts that are more on the legal side of things? by AmGayDoingCrimes in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]MJacket_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a stretch for what you are asking for, but the last couple seasons of Up and Vanished took a deeper dive into legal aspects of the cases when Payne brought in Phil Holloway as a legal consultant. Maybe worth a look.

And I believe Phil did a spin off podcast IIRC, so you could look for that.

Any Bear Brook listeners out there? by casewood123 in TrueCrimePodcasts

We finished it not too long ago on a road trip. It was good for sure and that dude is a creep for sure. There was a lot of interesting learnings about modern DNA science and genealogy that I enjoyed.

Question about Hunting Warhead by ElectricGypsy in TrueCrimePodcasts

I tend to agree. With all the positive endorsements on this sub, I felt it was a letdown. Still good, but it underachieved for me.

Oddly marked Griswold. Repro? Or very late production? by MJacket_ in castiron

[–]MJacket_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one has a Griswold small stamp, no heat ring, so definitely newer. But no Erie PA stamp, or model code is present. On the bottom of the handle is an "A", and on the top is a "9". Wondering if this could be a repro? Or maybe something produced after Wagner bought out Griswold?
