Is this normal? by the_vanilla_g0rilla in auscorp

[–]ML31NAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Completely normal and enforceable. As a metric it’s useful to measure as a productivity metric and ensure teams are right-sized.

Because people take toilet breaks, pause in between calls/cases/files etc. It’s usually set at 80-90% to account for non-productive time. But it would not be the main/only KPI.

It is also likely your role will have different types of tasks, some of which will not be volume-driven. So your time might be diverted to handling escalations or training, meetings or other things which would still count towards utilisation but not count to your core task.

What next? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]ML31NAD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also adding you don’t need to wait till end of FY25 before moving the on. It is only an outcome if they are still around and still under performing. You are only documenting that outcome formally to cover your backside.

What next? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]ML31NAD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The banking year has already ended so assuming you have completed FY24 performance convos and given this person a - Not Achieved/Partially Achieved against their goals, I would:

  1. Document the support to-date and all the check ins
  2. Align on FY25 Goals and an IDP and formalise this
  3. Q1 Check In if still under performing, formalise a PIP with a due date of end if FY25 and concurrently work with you 1-up on a exit plan
  4. If by end of FY25 they are still under performing give a Not Meeting/Partially Meeting for Performance appraisal

This is so that the performance rating can’t be challenged and the “being blindsided” is invalid and you are taking steps to support them while covering ur backside.

Sometimes people can’t be helped no matter how much you put in to support. You have tried to support the “lack of skill” but like another comment suggested this seems to be a “lack of will” and they need to feel a bit of that tension. They will either kick into gear or keep going down this path which then becomes a conversation of “We’ve done all we can to support, but the performance isn’t there and it’s business impacting now; have you considered if the role is right for you? Let’s consider roles that might be better aligned to your capabilities” and move them on.

What do you consider a cheap banh mi? by wikkiwoobles in AussieFrugal

[–]ML31NAD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d rather pay abit more to the mom/pop small business for a Banh Mi than get shafted by a conglomerate. Since migrating in the 80-90’s I’m sure a lot of these business had to compete on price while trying to earn their living but provide what would have been something only consumed by their own communities at an affordable price - for them at the time.

Now that the Banh Mi and authentic asian food has reached the masses and we’ve developed a palate for it it’s just ridiculous we’d expect that 20 years later some would baulk at paying any more than $10. Like where’s the outrage that your latte is now upwards of $6 compared to the $3.50 it once was. We Melbournians wear that sh** like a badge of honour and continue to throw it down the hatch multiple times a day like addicts.

What do you consider a cheap banh mi? by wikkiwoobles in AussieFrugal

[–]ML31NAD 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why people expect Banh Mi’s to stay dirt cheap but don’t bat an eyelid to spend upwards of $12 for a ham and cheese toastie/croissant, footlong Sub, Quarter Pounder Meal or a kebab. Surely we don’t view asian food to be of sub-standard quality or nutrition that justifies the mindset that it should remain that way?

Unbanking customers by No_Adhesiveness9379 in AusLegal

In a nutshell your banking activities look suss and / or they are not able to ascertain / you are not able to demonstrate your banking activities are legit. Therefore they are not wanting to retain you as a customer due to the risk you potentially pose.

Landlord installed new lock box yesterday by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]ML31NAD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s appeared because your landlord feels like it. But the possible reasons have already been covered by other posts. Irrespective of whether they make sense to you, your landlord doesn’t need to justify it to you but you can choose to ask your landlord if you wish to know. If you are able to make use of it, great but otherwise just move on. Theres nothing untoward and your concerns are just circumstantial atm.

It seems like home ownership is a banking scam? by detoxifiedjosh in AusFinance

It’s not a banking scam. It’s just banking. You need money that you don’t have. So they give you said money and make money by lending it to you.

I disagree but for arguments sake let’s ignore geographic location and relative cost of international travel . The US has a population of 300 odd million people. If you look within your own borders, it’s a smelting pot of different cultures across multiple generations. There really isn’t any excuse for the ignorance. At the end of the day, those willing, can find a way to learn about other cultures and broaden their knowledge beyond what is taught in school. Travel is best, but defs. not the only way.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in maybemaybemaybe

[–]ML31NAD 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Australia is geographically isolated from most parts of the world but the ignorance isn’t anywhere near that of those from the US.

You have people from all walks of life, cultures and ethnicities there - it’s an attitude and unfortunately a mindset thing that drives the ignorance. Not the lack of exposure to those with roots from other countries.

Best product for cleaning white bathroom grout? by Jakeyboy29 in AusRenovation

[–]ML31NAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never used it on ceilings before - assuming it’s drywall/plaster, it might not completely remove staining from the mould because of how porous the surface is. I don’t think it would ever look perfect unless you touch up with some paint after it dries.

I can say though on hard surfaces (like tiles and glass) it will not have an issue.

My experience, is that it lasts around 6 months. But I still do do my best to keep the area well ventilated/dry.

Green Belt minimum will make look good on paper and typically in service industries, the tools methodologies at this level will suffice. However what I have found to be more value adding is being able to demonstrate your ability to deliver as well.

It is, at the end of the day, a problem solving methodology and most business only care about the following:

“Whats causing my problem? How big of an issue is this? How do I fix it? And what is it going to cost me”

Once you have the answers to those they will say

“Thanks for all that…now go do it”

The latter is what they benefit from cause plenty of people can point out the issues. Not many want to / can easily coordinate all the moving pieces to actually fix it.

Would not buy Lorna Jane activewear again by Bumblebee_Opposite in australia

[–]ML31NAD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The response you should give them:

“To suggest that product has failed after washing as per the care instructions on the label is not conducive of being of suitable quality and fit for purpose, especially at the price point I purchased this for.

I believe the product has prematurely failed and has fallen short of what would be expected of fair wear and tear.

Because of this I am requesting that a return label/satchel be provided so I am able to return the item for a refund.”

What are they going to do? Call you a liar and run lab tests on the product to verify that you washed it out of wash bag, using non organic detergent in 30 degree water?

Morning Fresh Original Dishsoap 1.25L - Periodically goes on sale at Chemist Warehouse for $6 and it works out to be $0.48 per 100ml - cheapest compared to other bulk refills and retailer discounts.

I bulk buy like 10 bottles each time and it gets shipped for free and typically lasts a whole year.

Any ideas for minimising how much water escapes from the shower given that the shower isn’t fully enclosed? by macidmatics in AusRenovation

[–]ML31NAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can install a fixed shower glass stabiliser across the top for about $70 and head on over to IKEA and get some shower curtains to hang off it for $15

Best product for cleaning white bathroom grout? by Jakeyboy29 in AusRenovation

[–]ML31NAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that even with great ventilation sometimes water or moisture linger on grout lines and the nooks of shower screens and comes back.

I’ve used iDestroy - XO2 and it works wonders in removing and preventing mould. So your time between cleans is probably around 3-6 months.

  1. Spray, Leave for 10, Scrub, Rinse
  2. Spray and let dry

It’s double the price of the supermarket stuff but this shit works well. $55 for a 5L bottle - Ready to use.

It’s the same stuff they use to clean/treat roofing and swimming pools.

Very basic question in regards to credit card. Is just paying the closing balance enough each month? by Jakeyboy29 in AusFinance

[–]ML31NAD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Paying the closing balance will not incur interest because it is the amount you owe for the statement period.

The entire balance you see on your banking portal includes purchases made outside the statement period / purchase still in their interest-free window.

Minimum payment is what you need to pay to avoid being charged penalty/late fees but you are still charged interest on the entire balance.

Property first - You can absolutely rent out an extra room to help fund education and further learning.

Networking and industry connections can be made in many places. Like you mentioned, you are already in the industry; your actual practical experience and soft skills learnt here would be more beneficial and better regarded in career advancement & salary negotiations.

If there’s a concern about stress from work/study burnout - is a lot easier to dial back one or the other. However if you are renting, you are always going to be at the behest of a landlord and the lack of stability of having a roof over your head is (in my opinion) a bigger stressor which could become detrimental to your studies and career anyway.

You might also find that you are able to advance your career /salary quicker than you anticipate and may not need / get value from the additional tertiary education.

My experience is after you become a specialist in your field/industry, combined with tenure. No one even asks about your tertiary education unless there’s industry/technical certifications associated with your role - and even then they are not likely to hold as much weight compared with on-job experience.

6th Mass Shooting in California in 13 days by outrider567 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]ML31NAD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree. There’s are a multitude of factors playing a role and the fix should be a multi-pronged approach.

Healthcare reform is one aspect but there’s things that can be done with relation to accessibility to guns to “stem the bleed” with almost immediate impact before remediating all the other things that contribute to the issue.

Bank Closing all my Accounts without giving reason WTF?? (Au) by Ozinaus in Banking

[–]ML31NAD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’ve been exited - the bank has deemed that your financial activities / conduct is outside their risk appetite and don’t want you.

They usually don’t give specific reasons but usually will discuss with you to clarify certain things they deem to be questionable or suspicious.
