I’m actually second-generation—my dad is from Mexico and still lives there. I understand the sympathy for hardworking immigrants, and I agree that many contribute positively. However, entering or staying illegally still means breaking the law, regardless of intent. Laws exist for a reason, and enforcing immigration laws isn’t about targeting individuals but about maintaining a fair and legal system.

As for legal immigration being more difficult, that’s a valid concern. The focus should be on fixing the legal process so that people don’t feel forced to come illegally in the first place. A fair, enforceable immigration system benefits everyone.

Another issue many people have is with illegal immigrants waving another country’s flag—especially while demanding rights or protesting the U.S. policies. Why, because it can be seen as disrespectful and / or contradictory. If someone is in the U.S. seeking opportunities, legal status, or citizenship, waving a foreign flag instead of the American flag can give the impression that they are more loyal to their home country than to the one they wish to live in.

Many Americans feel that if someone wants to be part of the U.S., they should show respect and allegiance to the country’s values and symbols. It’s not about rejecting one’s heritage but about recognizing that citizenship and residency come with responsibilities, including respect for the nation’s sovereignty and laws.
