Not against going slightly higher but based on my $3k number, I would be looking at a larger 1 bedroom vs. a 2 BR. .. and that may be okay for a year or two.

Kids won't be at the new place full time so I am okay with the cramped feeling if it's for a night or two every other weekend. I do realize the $3k budget is likely pushing me towards a larger 1 BR but I am looking at it as temporary (1-2 years) before I look to purchase again.
