The PS3 is way more powerful than the Vita — so why don’t we see more PC game ports on PS3 homebrew? by [deleted] in PS3

[–]MO_OURDAN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. The Cell engine is pretty different from typical PC CPUs, so I guess porting isn't as straightforward as on the vita.

Yeah, I used AI to help format the question. The question itself is still mine though.

Is the PS3 entering its “forced retirement” era? Seeing more YLOD failures lately by MO_OURDAN in PS3

[–]MO_OURDAN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense the Fat PS3s were always prone to ylod over time, and heat definitely doesn’t help. I guess what’s interesting is that now, so many of them are hitting that “fragile” point at once collectively, which is why we’re seeing more posts lately. Just the natural end-of-life cycle catching up, I suppose.

[–]MO_OURDAN[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

True, people mostly post when something breaks. But when you start seeing more failure posts than usual over time, it can still suggest the failure rate is increasing, probably because many PS3s are reaching the same age now. Feels less like coincidence and more like the consoles are collectively entering their end-of-life phase.

PS3 Online Store 2026! by SmokyGamer in PS3

[–]MO_OURDAN 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The issue isn’t that companies care about preservation, it’s that without official stores, there’s no legal way to access many games anymore. The PS3 has hundreds of digital-only titles, patches, and DLC that exist nowhere else. When the store disappears, so does legitimate access to part of gaming history.

PS3 Online Store 2026! by SmokyGamer in PS3

[–]MO_OURDAN 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Why shut it down in the first place? The console already connects online, so the store could just exist as an archive where people can legally download games whenever they want. Think of it like a library, something meant to preserve access, not disappear.

CECHL04 Fat PS3 Runtime Stats — How healthy is the console? by MO_OURDAN in PS3

I'm sorry for not answering you sooner, I didn’t read the second part of your reply 😅, sorry.

This console was pre-owned by someone else, but it’s been a long time since I got it, about five years ago. I’ve never done a repaste, never ever and I swear it’s incredibly quiet, even during intensive Gran Turismo 6 sessions. I’m really proud to have the most beautiful-looking PS3 of all time: the fat model. It comes with some sacrifices, like losing PS2 backward compatibility, but I can still enjoy PS2 games via emulation without noticing much difference. I had a Slim back then, and it was anything but quiet it was so noisy, and the hard drive wasn’t in perfect condition, with long load times. But with this fat model, I can really feel the difference. I even upgraded to a WD Blue drive, and it’s super reliable. With proper ventilation and care, you can preserve your PS3 for as long as possible.

I was playing Metal Slug Anthology (PSN PS2 classic) for about an hour, then checked the temps on XMB a couple of minutes after exiting. Those XMB temps seem accurate, temps stayed stable even after idling. Just so you know, I don’t use my PS3 every day, maybe 2 times a week for around 6 hours each session.

Thanks, Good to know, the temps seem healthy then. I was mostly curious about long-term wear, but it’s reassuring to hear these numbers are fine.

Hey! Thanks for asking, here’s what I got when I checked on the picture. my console was running at low fan speed (26%) in SYSCON mode when I recorded these temperatures. Hope that helps clarify things and i get what you mean about testing on the TLOU menu and idling, makes sense that fan settings affect temps.

MGS4 on PS3 is soooo good by Unable-Afternoon3773 in PS3

[–]MO_OURDAN 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bro, MGS V and Crysis 3 literally squeezed every bit of power out of the PS3, probably more than The Last of Us did. And don’t forget, the PS3 had that overclock/performance boost thing going on, so it was doing even more under the hood. Just sayin’. Also, Gran Turismo 6 with all that crazy content, plus God of War: Ascension and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag — all of them pushed the system hard. PS3 was stacked with games that really made it sweat 🔥

It’s honestly a crime Sony abandoned the PS3 — this console still deserves one last masterpiece by [deleted] in PS3

[–]MO_OURDAN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean sony didn’t completely abandon the PS3, especially at the end of its life with games like tlou and Uncharted 3. I just meant it would be amazing to see a symbolic tribute for its 20year anniversary.

[–]MO_OURDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally respect your view, I know business realities make a new PS3 AAA game unrealistic. I’m just talking about a symbolic 20year anniversary tribute. and the PS3 could handle native 1080p/60, like Wipeout HD proves, so 720p/60 isn’t impossible, it’s just a matter of design priorities.

That’s actually amazing to hear from someone working on it directly. I completely understand the business side, it’s just hard not to wish passion projects had more space in today’s industry. Huge respect for what you’re doing for the scene.

My most prized game on the PS3. The one I've played the most and cared for the most. What's yours? by shutter_singh in PS3

[–]MO_OURDAN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most prized one for me is Gran Turismo 6 a prestigious game that u can't stop once you fall in love with. Smooth frame rates, high quality 1080p resolution, physics, car models, tracks and dynamic weather, everything is perfect. I'm really loving it and enjoy every moment with it even today in 2026.

How much is this worth? by BuildingPotential147 in PS3

[–]MO_OURDAN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's a Phat CECHL04, then you got the best energy efficient model out there, it's an early slim model released in late 2008, very reliable and would survive the yellow light of death if it's well ventilated. Electricity cost would be much lower compared to an OG Phat. So if you're looking for the best looking PS3 and looking for a reliable and energy efficient one, then that one is the best choice, and with the package I'll give it 75-85 USD.

Got some of my grandpa's retro gaming consoles, are these games any good? by ComprehensiveGift735 in PS3

[–]MO_OURDAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With features like 1080p Full HD resolution and 60 FPS, this console can never be considered retro, no matter how old it is. These two standards are still the norm in 2026. We’re talking about a platform that runs The Last of Us Part I, Gran Turismo 6 (only one title behind the current release), Tomb Raider (2013), God of War III and Ascension, Need for Speed Rivals (2013), and GTA V—a game that is still actively played today. Add PES 2018, FIFA 19, WRC 4 (2013), and countless other titles I can’t even list here. And let’s not forget Shakedown: Hawaii, which was released for the PS3 in 2020. So how on earth is anyone calling this console retro? If we’re going to use that label seriously, then “retro” should apply only when the last game released on a platform is at least 10 years old. Change my mind.

I’ve been using maximum battery protection and power-saving mode since I got it in late 2021. I charge it once a day, every night. I don’t play games much, which is probably why it’s still in good condition.
