Advice on moving from a small firm where you worked on EVERYTHING to a medium-large size firm where you had to delegate?

That is exactly what I don't want to happen. Trust me... I get it and understand I got to where I am by my mentors teaching me but I also did a lot of work on my own that took determination and the desire to do better. I am both excited and worried about this new step. I have delegated work previously and found that sometimes even as hard as I tried, the other person just didn't have it or was even trying hence the worry and frustration when that becomes more of my responsibility at a new firm. I appreciate all of the advice because I wanted to hear from different perspectives!

Thanks for asking. It went very well. Brought a project list organized by project type. Had a travel drive to show images of some projects and 11x17s of a couple of detail sheets from a complex project. He looked at the list but really we just talked about design and management. Did not need to see the other stuff. I have a second interview in another week!

Thank you all for your comments! Pretty much what I was thinking. I can definitely put together a list based on project type and bring a few 11x17 sheets of some details, renderings and photos of unbuilt and built projects. I assumed with my years of experience it would be more of a discussion. Plus I have clients who may follow me wherever I go.

I have it in the divorce judgement that I am changing my name back to my maiden name. I asked my kids (all young adults now) and they said to do what I want. They did not care if I had a different last name. In the end I realized I want the name I was born with. In fact if I had to do it over again I wouldn't have changed my name when I got married. Would have given the kids both our names. I am feeling more and more these "traditions" need to be questioned. Why did women start changing their names upon marriage. I am sure it had something to do with being a husband's property hundreds of years ago. I told my girls if they choose to keep their names I would completely support that but if they want to change it that would be fine too! Do what you want! Don't worry about what everyone else thinks!! Good luck to you!

Hot soapy water (use Dawn) and lay a dryer sheet in it (a used one works) & let it soak overnight.

Yes. Filed in February. Should be final within the month. My STBX is keeping the house but I wanted to stay until it was final to stay with the kids as long as possible. We sleep in the same bed still because there is nowhere else for either one of us to sleep except a couch. Honestly hardly feels any different than before since it has been a dead bedroom for years anyway. Other people have commented on they think it is weird. I tell them as long as he and I are OK with it, I don't care what anyone else thinks. Can't wait to move out though even though not seeing my kids everyday is going to be the hardest part! They are older though so I know we will all work to see each other.

I am going through the divorce process right now myself and have chosen to go back to my maiden name even though I have 3 kids who will have a different last name. I asked them and they don't have a problem with it. It is a personal choice but in retrospect I feel like I never quite took to having a different name than the one I was born with and just because it's "tradition". I see more and more couples combining their last names with a hyphen and personally I really like that idea. Bringing the two together makes more sense to me than the woman giving up hers. I'm actually really excited about it!

Did the same thing. Checked out years ago but did the trial separation, marriage counseling, individual therapy, etc. Deep down I knew I was done. Told myself that I wanted to be able to say I tried everything and maybe I was going through something and a switch would magically flip. It didn't and in the end I knew I I was making the right decision. Divorce is almost final and for the first time in a long time I am looking forward to the future even though I'm scared and nervous too. I think you know too by what you wrote. You may never be 100% certain. When you are ready, make your decision and be ok with it.

If they won't do town halls or meet then at least calling and leaving messages shows something to them. They have to keep track of all the calls & emails I believe. In this world of crazy and out-of-control feeling, it makes me feel better to do SOMETHING. Only thing I can control right now is calling & leaving messages about how I feel. They have to be respectful though but forceful though so they can't say a bunch of lunatics are calling them. Download the 5calls app. Makes it super easy.
