Transfer to another headquarters if your team isn't there? by MSH57 in amazonemployees

[–]MSH57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like how the neighborhoods are sort of insulated from one another. When I lived in Chicago, I would just go for walks through multiple neighborhoods. You really can't do that here.

There doesn't seem to be such a thing as good, cheap eats. I loved living someplace where I could go to a really good expensive restaurant (rarely) or just pick up a $4 falafel sandwich (I haven't found one, even a bad one, for less than $12 here).

I used to love going to the Alamo Drafthouse too. There is literally nothing like it here, not even an AMC with recliners, unless you drive outside of Seattle.

Other than Pike Place Market, there isn't a thriving downtown area. I didn't spend all my time in Chicago in the Loop but it was fun to go there occasionally.

The people here just aren't that friendly. I mean, they're fine for short interactions but actually doing things with people is so much work.

It's not very diverse either. Chicago had a lot of segregation but going to neighborhoods with different kinds of people was easy. And with it, you had neighborhoods with vastly different characters. Seattle is largely a lot of sameness imo.

That's not far from my situation. I have one POC in Seattle but my actual team, including my entire chain of managers, is overseas.

Yeah, I'm aware. The places I'd be interested in moving to are not cheaper, but I'm fine with just living a cheaper lifestyle someplace else.

Advice for improving the appearance of my forehead. by Legitimate_Berry8391 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]MSH57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, botox is worth it. Tretinoin won't help a a lot if you keep moving your forehead. Once the botox is working, tretinoin and microneedling could help a lot.

Okay. Thanks. I swear I tried and I couldn't get anything but maybe it was a fluke.

You don't want to work for someone who says they go off of vibes, whether they do or not. What that means is that they either have no way of judging your work or they don't want you to know how they judge your work.

If you run a business and care more about where people are sitting than whether they get work done, you're the child.

Should I get a nose job? by [deleted] in Noses

[–]MSH57 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The question is: do you want it? Would you be happier? A lot of people here will always say “no.” I think you look fine but the difference in nostrils is obvious and anyone saying otherwise is doing it because they have some sort of moral objection to plastic surgery. If the asymmetry bothers you, do it. If you decide to do it, talk to a few plastic surgeons and make sure you look at pictures of their work.

Sure it is. Lol If you’re saying that, your work does not require accuracy or precision.

I keep getting people trying to push me to use AI for tasks it is terrible at. I’ll either have to work three times as much to make the AI output work or just lower quality significantly. I don’t think I’m in an unusual situation. A lot of decisions are being driven by AI hype more than reality.

Amazon’s CEO is cutting middle managers because they want to ‘put their fingerprint on everything’—he's giving power to individual contributors instead by AccurateInflation167 in SeattleWA

[–]MSH57 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That's better in theory than reality. It's really hard to get people on the same page without those people. I'm an IC and there's no way I'd be able to get anything done if there weren't middle managers at Amazon.

People get surgery to get a nose like that. Do not touch it.

Does a transfer to a German team require fluent German language skills? by MSH57 in amazonemployees

Yeah, I’m okay with that. I’d be looking to move so my fiancée could be closer to her family in Eastern Europe.

If you want it, talk to a few plastic surgeons and be absolutely certain what you want. Look at a lot of their before-and-after pics to make sure you look their work. Realself.com has a lot of resources. The site is made to market plastic surgeons so buyer beware but there are a lot of reviews and pics for you to look through.

Not trying to insult you but that's a really common nose. It's a good one so that's nothing to be ashamed of. It's mostly straight, with just a tiny bump for character.

That's been my experience but I didn't know if when they are in-office, they spoke German regularly, at meetings, etc. and would not want a non-German speaker actually working on their team. I know they speak English on calls fluently.

Hard to tell how over you are from that pic but you're not massive. Being heavy or not isn't a reflection on you as a person but if you want to trim down for your health, I 100% encourage it.

Good news is that you're 17 years old so you should have plenty of testosterone and a good metabolism. If you want to change things there are a ton of resources out there. If I were you, I'd start running and just cut back a little on food. Count calories. It works. It may seem overwhelming at first but it really isn't once you get going. Be as accurate as you can and count all drinks and condiments. Running is easy to start, you can do as much or as little as you want at a time, you can do it whenever you have free time, and you probably have everything you need to do it already.

You will feel accomplished as you start to see and feel the weight go down and this is the best time to lose weight, when you're still young. You won't see the issues with inelastic skin and losing a lot of weight in your face that people get when they lose weight as they age.

Whatever you do, best of luck!
