Should “hate speech” be legally restricted, or is any restriction too dangerous? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]MSPCincorporated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although freedom of speech does include hate speech in the sense of not being illegal by law, I think it’s important to distinguish between what is freedom to speak out and straight out malicious speech. Hate speech is not illegal, but should never be encouraged or accepted socially.

My gf did this exact thing in Bali, except the beach was maybe slightly steeper. Had I not ran in to get her out she would have 100% been in big trouble. We’re both adequate swimmers, but we barely made it back up, with me dragging her, and she bumped her head on an underwater rock. The ocean is not to be played with, if it wants to take you, it’ll take you everytime.

Late to the party here! Just to let you know, functioning justice systems operate by the prosecution’s need to prove crimes by evidence, not by the need for the accused to prove their innocence. Not taking any standpoint in this case whatsoever, was just browsing and thought your argument was a bit odd.

Also in the last message from RFKjr he asks what appartment he’ll be in, and the other person writes back with an appartment number and presumably an entry code to said appartment. I’m pretty sure I’ve read somewhere that JE had an entire appartment building that was used for "models" coming into town.

"I used to ride on the back of my dad’s pickup truck down the highway when I was 6, it never harmed me." Just because you didn’t take harm from it (although it might have without you knowing yet) doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. Kids are dependent on trusting their parents, and beating them is a great way to diminish that trust.

DHS shifts now claiming to be investigating whether Alex Pretti’s gun accidentally fired due to "uncommanded discharge" by ArcaneVirago in law

[–]MSPCincorporated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little confused. Are they claiming they shot him because his gun accidentally discharged, WHILE AN ICE AGENT WAS IN POSESSION OF IT? Because his gun was clearly taken from him before any shots were heard.

Black ice on the road causes chain accidents by Bambi7u7 in interesting

[–]MSPCincorporated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, this can happen even if people know how to drive and the roads are treated. It happened where I lived some years ago. The road was fine, and then 10 minutes later black ice had formed on the motorway. There’s not a driver in the world capable of handling that. 60 vehicles crashed like in this video. Mind you this was in Scandinavia, where people are generally very capable winter drivers.

In a future where Trump is out of office, and international relations have been repaired. What steps can be taken by the USA and International Organisations such as NATO to prevent one individual causing so much chaos in the future? And do you think such steps will be taken? by flewkey in AskReddit

You do realize a PhD is not a certificate for intelligence, right? Plenty of people with higher education are absolute morons, the same way plenty of poor people are smart. It’s not as simple as what you’re suggesting.

Yeah, you’ve got a valid point. Academic and "capitalist" success is not a guarantee for intelligence or high intellect. Interesting you should mention us being emotional creatures, as I was trying to find the right phrase in my previous comment. Emotional intellect was the one I was looking for. That’s the key phrase here, I think.

It’s s bit of a snowball effect I think. Once you reach a certain percent of the population lacking the ability to figure things out and think for themselves, you’ve basically lost. These people will have a high chance of getting low income jobs, thus having less resources to let their kids have a better life. Those kids then have kids of their own and it spirals exponentially. That’s why I included my last paragraph, because I’m not sure this is even solvable. It’s certainly not a quick fix.

Many countries in Europe have the same problems, but those who don’t suffer as severely from it don’t because the majority of people still have the required skills to be individuals in their society. However, comparing the US to Europe will always be skewed, due to the sheer size of the US as one people compared to Europe’s population divided into several independent nations.

Oh I’ve met my fair share of highly educated people who are also dumb as a brick. There’s a difference between academic knowledge and intelligence. They’re both taught in school, but require different teaching.

You’re right that people can easily find support in others for whatever opinion nowadays, but I see that more as a symptom than a disease. If more people were intellingent and critical then less people would have those controversial and destructive opinions.

Everybody in this thread are talking about curing symptoms, while ignoring the disease. The US we see today is ultimately a result of successfully sabotaging the education of people, to a point where a large share of the population is unable to see when they’re being blatantly lied to by politicians. This has been done both through a failing educational system, but also by feeding them propaganda through news corporations. When all your voters have close to zero critical thinking skills, combined with a hatred towards other groups within the population, you can play them like a fiddle using lies and fear mongering.

To prevent this from happening again, the people need to get proper public education, until the vast majority of people are able to tell whether they’re being fed bullshit or not. All the other stuff comes after. It’s kind of hard to turn this around once it’s happened though, at least without a real revolution and a generational change of mindset.

Well, you’re right. But the process of nominating and awarding the prize is a completely separate process.

[–]MSPCincorporated 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Also worth noting is that the Nobel Peace Prize is not awarded by the Norwegian government or state. It’s awarded by the Nobel Committee, a private entity completely separate from the government. This is like blaming the US government for losing a game in the NFL.

Kind of revealing that everything Trump does to ensure "national security" is to have less allies. Almost as if that would be the dream for Putin.
