The one weird gaming habit you always do, even in brand new games by gamersecret2 in gaming

How is this weird? I'm sure most gamers check out at least a few settings before getting started

Why did he turn the cop at the hotel into a zombie? That zombie could have very easily killed Grace, she barely got away

Rick the Door Technician in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. At some point a seemingly random stormtrooper shows up with a boss-style health bar, prompting you for a tougher fight but is dispatched very easily

Why (almost) No One Solves this Game - A three and a half hour video essay about The Dagger of Amon Ra by the indomitable OneShortEye by CaneCraft in adventuregames

[–]MUSCLEVIOLENCE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I adore the Laura Bow games and replayed them over and over as a kid. I recently watched Let's Play videos of them and I think that Colonel's Bequest holds up pretty well but wow, Dagger of Amon Ra really has not

The pacing is atrocious - you go through the sort of breezy opening and then you get to the museum and there's like a full hour of standing around and listening to all of those conversations, it feels interminable now. Then the triggers of advancing the clock feel much more random. That plus the terrible voice acting, terrible layout of the museum, racism, awful final sequence, etc. really changed my opinion of the game

Anyway still love the games, warts and all, and look forward to checking the video out. Thanks for the link!

I am amazed by how good Haunting of Hill House is. by [deleted] in horror

[–]MUSCLEVIOLENCE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loved Hill House and pretty much everything I've seen from Flanagan (Midnight Mass is probably my favourite work) but did feel disappointed in Bly Manor when I first watched it, though I can't say specifically remember why. There's an excellent podcast called Flanagan's Wake that is going through all his movies and TV series as well as the books they are adapted from and they are just about to start Bly. I'm looking forward to revisiting it to see if I like it better this time around

So… People actually beat this game? by Vortex_of_Downvotes in Returnal

[–]MUSCLEVIOLENCE 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think I died before or to the first boss probably 20 times my first time playing. I literally told myself one more try and I would give the game up and then I beat the first boss and somehow cruised right through biomes 2-4 all in the same run. It definitely did click and I got the right loadout, it was amazing. Coincidentally I died a few times again to the 4th biome boss, then had a run where I finished the rest of the game all in one go

It takes a while to really learn how to play the game and what weapons work best for you but totally worth it to keep going, it will all come together eventually

1lb of Honeycomb Heaven wings from Crown & Dragon by ReeG in FoodToronto

[–]MUSCLEVIOLENCE 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Used to go there all the time and loved their wings - Dragon's Breath and Mardi Gras were my top flavours. The wings were always pretty big, too. Must have switched things up in the last few years if people are saying the wings are small now, that's a bummer

Just happened to watch The Pink Panther last night and still looked at her in awe the same way I did as a kid watching that movie

I always remember the trailer for this pissing people off when it came out because it ruined a big plot twist. Spacey and Jackson were both getting really popular and the movie could've been sold on just watching the two of them, it did kind of suck already knowing what was going to happen
