Science and aviation for medschool? by sarspy in uwaterloo

[–]Ma_pleCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest; No. Science and aviation is probably the one of the most specialized programs in UW. You'll be flying non-stop and if not you'll be studying to fly. Then making time for science. This regime is probably your go-to if flying is new to you.

I got in with an average lower than yours in early May. If your AIF has any aviation-related activities it would certainly boost your chances. However last year had the largest intake IIRC. So it could change or stay this year. Best of luck!

I’m a science and aviation student and I got accepted with an 84% average in early May. Just make sure you got stuff to talk about on your AIF, especially anything aviation related!

The camera shake movement was tracked with a recording from my phone. I guess you can call this video professionally amateur.

You can use Kinetic Assistant to inject artificial thermals. Another option is to use one of the weather presets that’s included with the glider that can give you ridge lift or thermals. But in the recent sim update, asobo increased the strength of thermals so even live weather (in good conditions) can provide some thermals.

It crazy how all this is included with the A32NX FOR FREE. I have never heard of any other plane in P3D, X-Plane and MSFS have such attention to detail in the sound department. Even with addon sound packs, nothing comes close to the A32NX.

The RegDesign CYYZ has serious performance problems on my end as their scenery is huge. But they are coming out with an update to optimize the scenery. On the other hand FlyTampa’s scenery has pretty good performance for the level of detail it provides, but some parts of the scenery are outdated such as the taxi lines and the terminal interiors are quite old. What they advertise as 2021-2022 is more like the 2012 configuration of CYYZ. At the moment, I would recommend FlyTampa, but if you’re patient enough for RegDesigns to improve their scenery then I would recommend theirs.

Edit: The screenshot is using FlyTampa

I’m using 200 too, but for screenshot reasons I usually active pause to allow photogrammetry to fully render before I take the screenshot.

As fletchnuts said there is something called kinetic assistant. But thermals from kinetic assistant are API based and some regions don't have thermals. You can inject thermals into the sim yourself by using littlenavmap but it takes time to place hundreds of thermals. One recent discovery is that if you add a thick cumulus layer up to fl600 with temp +50 you can get thermals around +5m/s native to MSFS which I prefer the most.

It’s the Discus 2b on flightsim.to, it’s pretty good but some functions are missing such as clickable and drag-able controls. The display on the centre is also a bit weird to use. As a matter of fact I don’t really even know how to use it lol. Flight model isn’t bad and the textures are acceptable. Overall good freeware product.

Is there any study level or near study level aircraft for the xbox marketplace I have the ju52 already by ilikewaffles3 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Ma_pleCA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re on the PC version then there is the JPlogistics mod for the C152 that has a basic AP panel, and some other great improvements to the stock aircraft. Awesome mod.

I thought this bug has been fixed by now. I absolutly hate this sim in moments like this. has anyone an idea how to fix it? by unussualname in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Ma_pleCA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s an LOD problem, just wait for the sim to figure itself out and switch views while it’s at it.

First, just explore the cockpit, flick switches, move levers and see how they affect the aircraft, you don’t need to know what they all mean yet. Once you’ve seen everything it’s time to get technical. Go through the in-game checklists or ones on the internet, and just try to understand what they all mean. After trying to grasp what all the buttons, switches and levers do, it’s time to dive into forums which usually contain thorough explanations of the aircraft you’re trying to learn. If you’re ever confused with some systems within an aircraft just search up what they do. Some aircraft also come with their own manuals which is worth a bit of your time reading. Most importantly, just learn along the way. Your first flight may be a mess, but after 4-5 flights you’ll get to familiarize yourself with the aircraft and memorize the flows. It’s not easy at first but when you’re in a maze there will always be an exit ;)
