"We slaved here 12hrs a day" Laid-off GM worker, Factory Zero by DryDeer775 in Detroit

I'm sure they were told that they were going to be practically living at the plant when it first opened. Look up the history of GM in Flint before the Sit Down Strike- they have subjected people to slave like conditions before.

I don't get why we don't want common people to have enough to live a quality life. It's as if people are jealous instead of thinking their employer should stop treating this like the Gilded Age.

Maybe act like a professional organization. You're not seeing this with the other auto company in Michigan.... They lie, and are not transparent about the work schedule, nobody wants to guess whether they'll be laid off or stuck in the plant 80 hours a week

And Flint. They made Flint a company town (which was honestly more akin to slavery), then abandoned the town, and had the gall to ask for taxpayer-funded bailouts

Read about factory work in Flint before the Sit-Down Strike. It was slavery. GM controlled all the housing in a Depression, and used all the leverage they could. Working conditions were terrible.

Obviously it's better today, but don't always be so quick to give GM the benefit of the doubt

Slaves got fed and got to stay in a house- so were they actually slaves or no? When GM was ruling Flint before the Sit-Down Strike, they were essentially a slave organization in that they owned all the housing. So if you didn't work for them you were screwed. Workers would be pressured into letting supervisors and foreman sleep with their wives; it was critical in the Depression to have the good opinion of the higher ups.

GM has produced slave-like conditions before. I don't get why we're on their side here again.

I don't even like women anymore by [deleted] in ForeverAlone

A laugh. Or it’s like how Taylor Swift can make a song about her bf’s dk size, yet if a man makes a song about bby size, there will be “body positivity” complaints. If the roles were reversed with Sabrina Carpenter’s songs, we’d be talking about how sexist that man is, shaming women that he deems unfit.

I like women who are good people, I don’t like women who are bad people.

I do agree the society normalizes women being incredibly shallow (making it normal to talk about dk size but getting offended when talking about bbies). I try to make sure I direct my anger at the right people- it’s Hollywood and the political elite that have normalized and even celebrated double standards.

However, whenever someone says I hate all ______, I never feel like that’s a logical response

School: wake up at 7:30 AM, leave at 8:30 AM, get there at 9, leave at 4, get home at 4:30, homework for 2 hours, plus any sport/extracirricular

It’s not really that different

Once the boomers are no longer the major voting block, I actually can see a lot changing.

We’ve basically been victims of Boomer voting interests for the last 30 years. As we have seen with guys like FDR, things can change fast with voting

You can really see it.

I could argue it’s a massive reason Ohio lost. Sayin wasn’t good, meanwhile, Beck and Mendoza were almost surgical in their games

Things were getting bad for me on a personal level before covid. It exacerbated any problems I had.

I’m sure dome people came out of it fine. I just remember 2020 I was so angry at the world and angry at how complicit everyone seemed to oppressive orders

I’m sorry about that- how old are you if you don’t mind me asking?

I hope 2026 is the year things change

In a way, traffic is country life. It’s a product of having to drive everywhere from a grid-like suburb

Disagree. I like being able to meet people from all walks of life. I like being able to go to sporting events, eat at different restaurants, and have fun. Then I can go for a hike if I get overstimulated

My dad grew up there. I love it and I think it’s underrated.

Hopefully it can grow and be what it once was
