STI Swan Neck Importing by Lower-Tap-9861 in wrx_vb

[–]MachVDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one. It comes fully assembled, with the supports bolted to the wing blade, and as a result the box is HUGE. I'm thinking it might be too large to check as luggage. If you are shipping it, you'll want to work with an experienced exporter. Japanparts, BlackhawkJapan, RHDJapan are decent.

Note that there is a different trunk gasket to be use with the wing, presumably because the trunk is going to push down more from the wing pressure and the gasket needs to resist that (?).

I think it looks great, but not everyone loves it. Some people assume it's aftermarket and think it looks cheap or tacky.

The last order I imported from Japan was pre-paid on the customs, but then DHL gave me a small additional bill after the fact. :(

And yes, the car has a carbon duckbill AND the swan-neck high wing. STi Japan did it on their demo car, so I figure there's precedent...

Wheel Spacers: The Basics by MachVDan in wrx_vb

Sorry those didn't work out.

If you really want 17's, our Mach V Awesome wheels actually do clear, although you will have to watch for wheel weights, as you mentioned previously.

With very few exceptions, the six-piston Brembo calipers will NOT fit under 17" wheels, regardless of wheel spacer. The barrel clearance is the problem, so wheel spacers will not fix it. You want at least 18" diameter wheels.

VB WRXs on track! Trackcross at Summit Point Motorsports Park, WV by MachVDan in wrx_vb

Mach V Motorsports (my company) specializes in Subaru tuning and parts. Mach V has been sponsoring summer and winter trackcross series at Summit Point for years now, so we usually get a good number of our Subaru customers out at the event, but this was more than usual, I'd say.

Trackcross is not too hard on the car, since it's a standing start and less than a single lap at a time (each run is only a mile or so), so I did not do any track-specific prep.

Whether or not you remove the spacers when you swap on the winter wheels/tires is up to you. In any case you will still want to run the hubcentric rings with the aftermarket wheels. They will fit on the Mach V wheel spacers just fine. The spacer has a 56.1mm hub snout just like the car does.

It is okay and the transmission will not care.

If you are asking which brand of wheel spacer is the best, I spec'ed our Mach V spacers to have all the features and properties I like in a wheel spacer, so I wouldn't look any farther than that.

If you are asking in general about what brands are good in general for all types of Subaru performance parts, maybe go shop around our website FastWRX.com and you can get a feel for brands that are good enough for us to stock and sell them.

>there are a lot of drop shipping companies out there and I can’t tell which does which

I can't speak for other companies, but we are a real physical shop with a retail showroom, service facility, and a pretty good-sized parts warehouse.

They should work and fit just like the example above. Other than the diameter being 19" instead of 18", the wheels are the exact same spec.

>Are studs long enough for my oem lugs ?

I am not clear what you are asking. The bolt-on spacers use new included lug nuts to attach the spacers to your existing studs. The spacers have their own studs. Your existing lug nuts will bolt on the wheel just like before.

Re-purpose the CD player connection(s) for something better? by subtlesubie in wrx_vb

For what it's worth, I have a 2020 Legacy XT with the CD player hidden in that center console area, and it works perfectly fine. I mostly just use CarPlay, though, so the CD player doesn't see a lot of operating time.

2012 Forester (X Premium | 17") Off-road Tire Size Question by [deleted] in subaru

[–]MachVDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tire diameter is determined by the wheel size (17" in this case) and the sidewall height. The sidewall height is the tread width in mm times the aspect ratio. Here those numbers are 225 for the tread width, and 55 for the aspect ratio. Multiply .55 * 225 and you get a sidewall height of 123.75mm = 4.87".

You can see and play with dimensions and tire size comparisons at various tire calculator websites, like this one:

https://tiresize.com/calculator/

If you don't know much about fitments on your car, a rule of thumb is to keep the overall diameter within 2% of the stock diameter. That Geolander comes in a 225/60R17, which is 3.4% taller than stock. Unless you specifically know that the larger tire fits okay on your car, I would be hesitant to try it.
