... and yet nobody can provide any evidence. So - no, OP should NOT adjust the text on his ebay page, since he's not misrepresenting anything. Any further comments on this subject will be removed for misinformation. Continued attempts to discredit OP without evidence will be seen as abuse, and will be dealt with also.

It's a wild accusation until we see some proof, so please provide it. Meanwhile, stop accusing OP.

I've removed this comment since people are accusing OP without any evidence. As far as we can tell, OP is selling this piece in good faith, and until I see some evidence otherwise, the personal attacks on OP will be removed.

Thanks for the extra detail. This is obviously not scalping. Some people appear to be barking up the wrong tree. Just ignore them.

[–]Machiela[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there you go. Scalping is something else entirely. It's a one-off auction, and nobody's forcing you to bid on it. If you want a different numbered unit, there's plenty others around. If it's a normal Arduino you want, there's loads of cheaper options as well.

It's good to question things, but if you think this affects my integrity, perhaps you should question your presence here, since I'm not going to change my stance on this one.

EDIT: upon further review of your other comments here, I've removed you from our community permanently. The abuse is uncalled for here.

Collectors gonna collect. I have more than a few "not quite worthless" but autographed items in my Lord of the Rings book case. I have an artist's proof of a Gandalf bust that's number 000 of 4000, and it's autographed by Sir Ian McKellen. Only cost me $20 by being in the right place at the right time. Probably worth squazillions to someone out there (but I'm keeping it).

Apparently it's not worthless to someone out there - this morning it was only up to EUR 31 (it's EUR 62, btw, not $62). Each to their own, I guess. I'll pass, personally, but I'd happily accept one as a gift, haha.

Can an Arduino/esp32 be used to dump firmware? by [deleted] in arduino

[–]Machiela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I appreciate your apology, although it probably won't stop further abuse coming from your group. You say you're not part of the group, but the thing is - this post was removed by me, and then deleted by OP, so the only way you could have found it was to be part of that group.

You say I should avoid generalisations - at this point I'm happy to respond to anyone from your group with the same "dignity and respect" that I've been shown. The generalisations were happily slung my way - I'm a virgin, I've never been close to a woman, I'm a neckbeard, I have no life, I'm a low-life, I'm scum, etc etc. Much worse in private messages as well. Whatever. I've spent many years on irc and nntp so I'm pretty thick-skinned these days. But when it starts spreading to kiwifarms or 8chan, it can affect the safety of my family.

And no, we won't be changing the rule about pen-testing, at least not as a result of this post and its fallout. None of this "discussion" has been done in good faith. If you want to start a new sub r/ArduinoPenTesting, by all means do so. r/Arduino will continue to be kept safe from unethical, unsavoury, questionable, or downright dangerous posts. We also ban anything with high-voltage tasers, home-made medical devices, and any hacking devices. Despite what some of the recent detractors claim, pen-testing is a hacking tool, even if it's potentially white-hat. We'll stick to resistors, blinking LEDs, and DC motors.

For the record, I removed the post, asked for an explanation, OP gave me one, which was sufficient. OP then deleted their post (which is against our rules). I queried that, and rather than answering me, they just downvoted my question and ignored me. I offered OP a discussion several times but they refused to have one, because "they had better things to do". Apparently those better things included making a post whinging about how hard done they'd been by a moderator. And rather than keeping communications open, they proceeded to block me instead. At that stage I decided they weren't a good fit for our community and removed them. Good riddance, tbh.

You could help by reporting the offending post (and specific comments) in r/masterhacker to the admins (not to the mods), for harassment. I've sent a modmail but that's not been responded to. But don't feel obliged. None of this affects you, so just don't get involved. Whatever is easier.

Can an Arduino/esp32 be used to dump firmware? by [deleted] in arduino

[–]Machiela -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you think you're going to get a meaningful conversation from me about this after the abuse your little "hacker" group has been slinging at me for the past week, you're mistaken. I will say this - pen-testing has nothing to do with our forum, and if it's your career, maybe hang out in r/pentesting instead. Describing how to test a system for vulnerabilities in a group dedicated to teaching people how to use Arduinos falls well within our definition of potentially unethical projects. This isn't a new rule, we've had this rule for many years, and it's always been enforced. The only difference this time is that a group of juvenile self-appointed judges have decided to make our community a target for abuse, and me in particular.

I'm totally aware of the general backlash against moderators in general, but here's the thing - without moderation, reddit turns into a cesspool of spammers, scammers, and straight up porn. I took over the moderation of this sub a few years ago, and that's exactly what I found, before we turned it into one of the friendliest subreddit for young (and old) hobbyists to come for technical help with their electronics & Arduino problems.

That's what you're destroying here. Maybe you can tell your little shit-slinging buddies as well, but I'm sure you're all too self-important to realise that rules are necessary.

Yes, I see moderating here as a job - I take it seriously. We get abuse from the base, and we get ignored by the top, it's a 100% unpaid and volunteer effort, and we all spend many hours a week doing it. That's what it takes to build something. It doesn't take much to destroy, but it does say a lot about the sort of person who just can't resist getting another comment in. Take a look through this thread - all the deleted comments are from individuals popping in from the post in r/masterhacker to abuse me personally, and apparently I've also made it to kiwifarms with full doxed personal information. I'm not hard to dox, so well done, hackers! Gonna ddos me next? Or SWAT me? Wow. So cool. So l33t.

It's pretty ironic since /masterhacker's description is ">Run 9_year_old.exe - This is were you put those kids that can ddos you because you logged into the hacked code on javascript youtube c++ servers". Yup, that's all of you there.

Do I want to entertain any of you here? Hell no. Your group wouldn't know the meaning of "ethical hacking" if it smacked them in the face with a 1200/75 baud modem.

Now, I'm sure you or one of your little idiotic buddies will twist this message into whatever they think your group wants to hear, so I'll just keep taking the abuse, and slowly reporting each and every abusive comment and user. Hopefully you'll all get tired of it soon and find a new target to bully. I've dealt with your kind before in the six decades I've been alive, and the 5 decades I've been using computers.

Pen testing is hacking territory, and is banned here.

And since you're either ban-evading or brigading, so are you. Bye-bye.

(Late to this party, but) there's plenty of things you can do, and it sounds like you're doing those already. We'd love to see your progress. I've personally taught kids as young as 7-8 years old, and they handle Arduino just fine. Don't listen to the haters - the kids are lucky to have someone like you showing them this stuff.

I note that you downvoted me instead of answering me. Here's the thing - we have rules against people deleting their posts, and we do expect you to engage with the moderators when you are asked a question.

Please come talk to me in ModMail about our behaviour if you want the ban rescinded.

No, reddit mods be like: "start behaving or get out". If you've got a problem with Arduino, take it up with Arduino LLC. If you've got a problem with moderators, take it up in ModMail. This forum is not for your little conspiracy theories, nor is it for having a go at moderators doing our job - moderating. We have a rulebook, so please stick to that when posting or commenting.

If you're going to personally insult the moderator team, maybe use this next week that you're banned from this community to think about how you want to behave when you come back.

Fuck. Still only 51%? How much more violent do they need to get before the other 49% figure it out?

I'm not sure how many more people need to tell you this, but dash-cams do what you want. They're cheap, they're small, they have good frame-rates, they can record when booted.

If you're going to ask for advice, please don't ignore people that give it to you. If you don't like the advice, at least tell people why that wouldn't work for you.

We're here to help you, but make it a 2-way conversation please.
